Lafayette used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from visiting Holy Cross on Senior Day today at Fisher Stadium, 11-7 and pick up the team’s first Patriot League win of the season.
The Leopards were led offensively by Robert Orazietti with four goals, followed by Morgan Westby (Episcopal Academy) added a hat trick and Jason Sands tallied three assists. Ben Falcone won his second consecutive game in goal, making seven saves. Defensively Erik Cannon forced six turnovers and grabbed five ground balls for Lafayette.
After falling behind 1-0 early in the first quarter, the Leopards used a 5-0 spurt to take control of the game. Senior Sonny Round sparked the run from Lafayette, finishing a feed from Kevin Lewis at the 10:07 mark of the opening period. A minute later Sands found Orazietti for his first tally of the game.
Orazietti scored again for the Leopards on a solo effort with 7:18 to go in the first quarter. Sands set up another goal for Lafayette three minutes later, finding Kevin Lewis to push the led to 4-1. Westby netted his first of the afternoon to make it 5-1.
Holy Cross slowed the Leopard run with five seconds on the clock in the quarter. Three goals from the Crusaders in the second quarter sent the game into the half knotted at five.
Westby gave Lafayette the lead with ten minutes to play in the third quarter, 6-5. Orazietti completed his hat trick at the 2:56 mark, taking advantage of a man-up opportunity. The Crusaders scored late in the third quarter to make it a one-goal game heading into the final period.
Sands third helper of the afternoon set up Westby early in the fourth to push the lead to two, 8-6. James Roberts found the back of the net for his first career goal midway through the fourth quarter. After a marker from Holy Cross, Lewis scored his second goal of the game with 2:21 on the clock. Orazietti’s final goal of the game sealed the 11-7 victory for the Leopards.
Brian Bock (Spring-Ford) had six groundballs for the Leopards.
