Womens’ recruits: Cincinnati coach Oliver (Pottstown) adds four Philly grads

University of Cincinnati lacrosse coach Gina Oliver (Pottstown) has announced the addition of 14 student-athletes to her roster for the 2015 campaign. The 13 freshmen and single transfer join a roster that returns 14 players from last year’s squad.

“I’m really excited about the talent and competitiveness of the 2018 class,” Oliver said. “They’re a very diverse group of athletes who will make a huge impact on our team right away.”

The group of newcomers includes a pair of players on the attack, six midfielders, five defenders and a goalie. They also hail from seven different states (Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia).

Madison Dishman Defense // Royersford, Pa. (Spring-Ford)

Prior to UC: Played at Spring-Ford High School in Royersford, Pennsylvania, along with classmate Julianna Radzinski … Named to first team All-PAC-10 and first team All-Montgomery County as a senior … Earned honorable mention All-PAC-10 honors as a sophomore and junior … Played club for the PA Express and Dynamite Lacrosse … Helped club team reach a No. 19 national ranking.

Personal: Born April 8, 1996 … Daughter of Pablo and Kerri Dishman … Has one brother, Josh.

Oliver on Dishman: “Madison is someone who just makes plays. She is aggressive, smart and knows where to be on the field.”

Abby Lord Midfield // Devon, Pa. (Conestoga)

Prior to UC: Netted 160 career goals at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania … Found the back of the cage 66 times as a senior … Helped Conestoga to state playoffs as a junior … Was only freshman player to make varsity team … Played club lacrosse for Phantastix … Was named MVP of tournament all-star team and first team All-Central League.

Personal: Born March 20, 1996 … Daughter of Rob and Amy Lord … Has two brother, Ryan and Bradlee … Bradlee played lacrosse at Maryland the past two years and will continue his career at Cornell.

Oliver on Lord: “Abby comes from a really strong high school program and was very successful. She finds a way to score and makes everyone around her better. She will be one to watch.”

Schuyler Nissen Midfield // Philadelphia, Pa. (Germantown Friends School)

Prior to UC: Prepped at Germantown Friends School … Helped Germantown to a league championship and state tournament quarterfinals appearance as a senior, earning all-league honors … Was an honorable mention all-league selection as a junior when team had its third-straight runner-up finish in Friends School League … Played club for Ultimate Goal Lacrosse in Philadelphia.

Personal: Born December 11, 1995 … Daughter of Chris Nissen and Cynthia Brey … Has one sister, Theresa.

Oliver on Nissen: “Nissen brings great size and competitiveness to our team. She is one of the hardest working players in the class and will raise our level of play every day.”

Julianna Radzinski Midfield // Schwenksville, Pa. (Spring-Ford)

Prior to UC: Played at Spring-Ford High School, along with classmate Madison Dishman … Named PAC-10 Honorable Mention as a senior … Played club for Phantistix in Philadelphia.

Personal: Born January 16, 1996 … Daughter of Tad and Tara Radzinski … Has two brothers, Stephen and Matthew.

Oliver on Radzinski: “Rad is a solid, consistent player. She can get it done on both ends of the field and you can always count on her to make a play.”

Bridget Cleary Attack // Centerville, Va. (Chantilly)

Prior to UC: Four-year starter at Chantilly High School in Virginia … Served two-years as a team-captain … Named All-Condorde District first team selection as a junior and senior, while earning second-team honors as a sophomore an an honorable mention nod as a freshman … Helped Chantilly to the Virginia Class-AAA Final Four as a freshman … Also lettered in field hockey … Played club for Capital Lacrosse Club, twice being selected to the D.C. Metro Women’s Division National Tournament Team.

Personal: Born April 5, 1996 … Daughter of Mike and Ellen Cleary … Has one brother, Owen, and one sister, Dana.

Oliver on Cleary: “Bridget is a great attacker with a very high lacrosse IQ. She is dynamic, can shoot the lights out of the ball and thread the needle on feeds. We look forward to seeing her work within our offensive system.”

Alex Flobeck Defense // Mount Sinai, N.Y. (Mount Sinai)

Prior to UC: Helped Mount Sinai High School to a 36-1 record over her junior and senior seasons, with an undefeated season and New York Class C State Championship as a junior in 2013 … Team finished as state runner-up and Long Island champion during freshman year in 2011 … Named an all-county selection as a junior and senior and an all-division selection as a sophomore … Mount Sinai advanced at least to the Suffolk County Championship game all four years … Played club for the Long Island Yellow Jackets … Helped Yellow Jackets to U-15 national title, earning a spot on the U.S. Lacrosse Magazine All-Tournament Team … Selected for Long Island School Girls team, Suffolk County All-American All-Star Team and Under Armour All-American Team.

Personal: Born November 4, 1996 … Daughter of Chris and Sue Flobeck … Has two sisters, Sara and Lea.

Oliver on Flobck: “Flo is a player who immediately makes your team better. She is a shutdown defender that only knows winning and that’s one of the best qualities to have.”

Elizabeth Grisko Defense // Western Springs, Ill. (Lyons Township)

Prior to UC: Three-time all-conference selection at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Illinois … Earned all-state honors and named team MVP as a senior, while also serving as team captain … Helped Lyons Township to a sectional title as a sophomore … Played club lacrosse for the Wildcat Elite Club in Evanston, Illinois, and Lakeshore in Chicago.

Personal: Born November 28, 1995 … Daughter of Steve and Debbie Grisko … Has four brothers: Michael, Stephen, Tom and Martin, and one sister-in-law, Corey.

Oliver on Grisko: “Grisko is our dark horse. We’re looking for her to bring that Midwestern competitiveness and scrappiness to our team.”

Lauren Hudson Defense // Baltimore, Md. (Maryvale Preparatory)

Prior to UC: Played at Maryvale Preparatory … Named an Under Armour All-American as a senior, following Under Armour All-American Underclassman honors as a junior … Named Maryvale Prep’s Unsung Hero as a sophomore and Rookie of the Year as a freshman … Played club for SkyWalkers in Baltimore … Product of same high school as teammate Ashley Helmrath.

Personal: Born July 4, 1996 … Daughter of Dan and Eric Hudson … Has one brother, Brendon, and one sister, Nikki … Sister, Nikki, played soccer at Rutgers.

Oliver on Hudson: “Lauren is an extremely smart and aggressive defender who knows where to be and how to make a play. She’s a tough and dominate player who will grow into the quarterback of our defense.”

Brooke Kovinsky Midfield // Monkton, Md. (Hereford)

Prior to UC: Played lacrosse at Hereford High School in Parkton, Maryland … Helped Hereford go 18-1 as a senior, earning all-county honors and a spot in the Senior All-Star Game … Played for ROME Lacrosse Club … Attended same high school as senior teammate Megan Bell.

Personal: Born July 12, 1996 … Daughter of Mark and Paula Kovinsky … Has one brother, Hayden, and two sisters, Hailey and Chelsea.

Alex MacAffer Goalie // Slingerlands, N.Y. (Albany Academy for Girls)

Prior to UC: Played at the Albany Academy for Girls … Helped prep team to four-straight New York State Section Two Championships, as well as three regional runner-up finishes … Named first team Colonial Council as a senior, while taking home second team honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior … Played club for the New York/New Jersey Metro Magic.

Personal: Born November 18, 1995 … Daughter of John and Pam MacAffer … Has one brother, Zach, and one sister, Samantha.

Oliver on MacAffer: “Alex has really quick hands and figures out a way to stop the ball. She will make our shooters and our other goalie better.”

Brianna Miller Midfield // Frederick, Md. (Tuscarora)

Prior to UC: Product of Tuscarora High School … Named first team All-Monocacy Valley Athletic League as a junior and senior … A three-time Frederick County Scholar-Athlete … Played for Frederick Starts Lacrosse Club … Selected to Baltimore Metro Team 1 for the 2013 U.S. Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament.

Personal: Born October 17, 1996 … Daughter of Jack and Kathleen Miler … Has a twin sister, Caitlin, who plays lacrosse at UMBC … Also has one brother, John.

Oliver on Miller: “B.Miller has great game sense and a true knack for finding the ball. She is extremely smart and understands the game defensively.”

Armonde Moore Midfield // Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington)

Prior to UC: Helped Upper Arlington High School to three Ohio Capital Conference titles (2012-14) … Named first team All-Ohio, All-District and All-OCC as a senior … A three-time Academic All-Ohio Selection … Played club lacrosse for Lucky Lax in Columbus, Ohio … Product of same high school as former UC lacrosse player Megan Knoop.

Personal: Born July 5, 1996 … Daughter of Jason and Betsy Moore … has two brothers, Hall and Mac, and one sister, Rawlins.

Oliver on Moore: “Armonde is a work horse and is solid on both ends of the ball. She is already a step ahead because she ran our style of defense in high school. We’re really excited to see how much better she will get in her four years.”

Mackenzie Schoen Attack // Roswell, Ga. (Roswell)

Prior to UC: Played for Roswell High School … Scored over 250 goals and 100 assists during her four years … Left as Roswell’s all-time leader in scoring, assists, ground balls and caused turnovers … Named All-American, Academic All-American, first team all-state and team most valuable player as a senior … Also named first team all-state as a sophomore and honorable mention all-state as a freshman … two-year team captain … led Roswell in scoring all four seasons … Played club for Eagle Stixs in Milton, Georgia, and Midwestern Force in Ohio.

Personal: Born April 26, 1996 … Daughter of Tim and Michele Schoen … Has one sister, Brittany, who played lacrosse at UMass.

Sydney Smith Defense // Hagerstown, Md. (Smithsburg)

Prior to UC: Product of Smithsburg High School in Maryland … Earned four varsity letters in lacrosse at Smithsburgh … Named to the Western Maryland Senior All-Star team as a senior … Played last season at the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, North Carolina … Played in eight games at Mount Olive, during the school’s inaugural lacrosse season.

Personal: Born December 10, 1994 … Daughter of Scott Smith and Deb Bauer … Mother, Deb Bauer, played field hockey, swimming and softball at York College of Pennsylvania … Was an in-line speed skater in high school.

Oliver on Smith: “Sydney is a pure athlete that wants to learn and get better at this game. She has a ton of potential and we look forward to seeing her growth under our systems.”
