Saint Joseph’s men’s lacrosse head coach Taylor Wray has announced the incoming Class of 2018, which features 16 newcomers from five states and Canada, and the addition of a redshirt junior transfer for the 2015 season. With the departure of just one starting midfielder and three total letterwinners from last year’s team, this group comprised of seven midfielders, six defensemen, three attackmen, and one goalkeeper will add to a Hawk squad that boasted one of the best campaigns in program history en route to claiming the 2014 Northeast Conference regular-season title.St.-Josephs-mens-lacrosse

“I am thrilled to finally welcome the SJU lacrosse Class of 2018 to Hawk Hill,” said Wray. “This is a tremendously talented and versatile group of players, but more importantly, they are young men of high character. We believe that they will represent the SJU lacrosse program well both on and off the field.”

The Hawks welcome Mike Bano (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome), Chris Blewitt (Lincoln Park, N.J./Bergen Catholic), Richie Buzza (Garnet Valley, Pa./Malvern Prep), Kyle Cain (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), Sam Camp (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor), Pat Dallon (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point), Kevin Forster (La Salle College High/Maryland), A.J. Mike Bano • Midfield • Dublin, Ohio • Dublin Jerome • Sports Marketing
A 2014 All-American, Bano was a two-time All-Star, All-Region, All-Conference, and Midwest Scholastic Honors First Team selection in both his junior and senior seasons and a two-time Under Armour Midwest Team honoree in both his sophomore and junior seasons at Dublin Jerome. The midfielder out of Dublin, Ohio led the Celtic Warriors in scoring in his junior and senior campaigns to earn Offensive MVP honors both years and to lead Dublin Jerome to a 17-5 record in 2014. Bano was selected to the Nike Blue Chip Camp three times and played club lacrosse for Titanium Elite. In addition to earning four varsity letters in lacrosse, Bano also served as the senior captain of the varsity football team, where he played corner/wide receiver, and earned the 2012 Dublin Jerome Celebration of Excellence Award. Bano coached Grizzell Middle School Lacrosse and Titanium Lacrosse Camp, and his favorite lacrosse moment is playing the sport with his older brother, Joseph, who currently plays for the University of Denver.

Chris Blewitt • Attack • Lincoln Park, N.J. • Bergen Catholic • Finance
A 2014 All-American and the 2014 New Jersey Attackman of the Year, Blewitt was the leading scorer (41g, 29a) and MVP on last season’s Bergen Catholic squad that was named the Bergen County Team of the Year after boasting a 19-1 record, the best in school history. Blewitt enjoyed a decorated career as a Crusader, twice earning All-State, All-North Jersey, All-County, and All-Conference honors and 2014 Gibbs Division Co-Player of the Year and All-Gibbs First Team recognition. The attackman out of Lincoln Park, N.J. also led Bergen Catholic to back-to-back division championships and the 2014 county title. Blewitt was a four-year varsity starter for the Crusaders and senior team captain and earned the prestigious Bergen Catholic Crusader Lacrosse Cup Award in his junior season. Blewitt also lettered in soccer, where he was a member of the league championship squad and received the Bergen Catholic Dom Mircovich Award. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and Mandarin Honor Society and earned honor roll throughout his academic career at Bergen Catholic. For his academic achievements, Blewitt was rewarded with the Foreign Language Educators of New Jersey Award for Achievement in Mandarin Language Study and was chosen to give a commencement speech at graduation. Blewitt played club lacrosse for Tri-State Lacrosse, and his favorite lacrosse moment came this past year when Bergen Catholic took a team trip to Denver, Colorado. During their stay, the Crusaders had the opportunity to go to the Rocky Mountains, and the group battled through snow and other obstacles to reach one of its peaks.

Richie Buzza • Midfield • Garnet Valley, Pa. • Malvern Prep • Business
A two-time Inter-Ac champion and Inter-Ac Invitational champion, Buzza led the Friars of Malvern Prep to a perfect 24-0 record last season. The midfielder out of Garnet Valley, Pa. earned academic honors at Malvern Prep and played club lacrosse for Mesa Fresh 2014 and Man Up. His favorite lacrosse moment was winning the Inter-Ac Invitational.

Kyle Cain • Midfield • Wantagh, N.Y. • Wantagh • Business
A 2014 All-American Honorable Mention, Cain tallied 84 points – the second most in the county – to lead the Warriors to a 12-5 record last season en route to earning team MVP honors. The Warriors lost to Garden City, 10-3, in the quarterfinals, and Cain scored all three goals in the loss. A two-time All-County and Academic All-County selection, Cain capped his lacrosse career at Wantagh with 190 points on 113 goals and 77 assists and earned multiple accolades from Newsday, including Pre-Season 100 Top Players of Long Island recognition and Player of the Week honors for a six-goal, one-assist performance against Maine-Endwell. The Wantagh, N.Y. native was named the Verizon Fios Player of the Game in a matchup against Floral Park in the 2013 playoffs and earned the John Cucci Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Lacrosse from Wantagh. Cain was voted to wear #22 by his Wantagh teammates in memory of Scott DeVerna and will continue to honor him and the Wantagh tradition by wearing #22 on Hawk Hill. Cain captained both the varsity lacrosse and basketball squads as a senior and averaged 10.9 points per game and 7.7 assists per game for the basketball team last season. Additionally, Cain was a member of the National Honor Society. The midfielder played for a playoff team his entire career at Wantagh, and his favorite lacrosse moment came in the form of a 14-11 semi-final victory over Manhasset in 2012; the then-sophomore tallied three goals and two assists to lead his team to the finals against Garden City.

Sam Camp • Defense • Newtown Square, Pa. • Radnor • Business Administration
A 2014 All-American, Camp led the Red Raiders of Radnor to a 17-6 record as a senior en route to earning team MVP honors last season. Camp was a two-time All-Central League and All-Delco selection and also earned 2014 All-State, All-Phillylacrosse.com and All-Main Line recognition. A three-year letterwinner and senior team captain, Camp was the recipient of the George T. Corrigan Leadership Award. The Newtown Square, Pa. native also lettered in soccer at Radnor, where he earned All-Central League, All-Delco, and Offensive MVP honors, and was an honor roll student. Camp is a member of the HeadStrong organization, and his favorite lacrosse moment was when the Red Raiders exceeded all expectations and made a statement by qualifying for the final four of the state tournament.

Pat Dallon • Goalkeeper • Sound Beach, N.Y. • Rocky Point • Business Administration
Saint Joseph’s only incoming goalkeeper, Dallon was an All-Division and All-County selection at Rocky Point. Through his leadership in net, Dallon captained the Eagles to a 19-2 record as a senior en route to the Suffolk County Championship title, where he was recognized as the MVP of the game. Dallon also received team recognition in earning the Coaches Award and Unsung Hero Award. The Sound Beach, N.Y. native was also a three-year leading scorer for the varsity soccer team and was named to the High Honor roll, Principal’s List, and National Honor Society at Rocky Point. Dallon was a member of Athletes Helping Athletes and the Varsity Club organizations, and his favorite lacrosse moment was winning the county championship.

Kevin Forster • Attack • Jenkintown, Pa. • La Salle College/Maryland • Communication Studies
A transfer out of the University of Maryland, Forster arrives on Hawk Hill for the 2014 campaign. The attackman notched 10 career points as a Terrapin, tallying four in 2012 (3g, 1a) and six last season (4g, 2a), and redshirted his sophomore season in 2013 due to injury. Forster was a 2011 Under Armour All-American at La Salle College High School and tallied a goal and an assist for the South Team in the Under Armour All-America game. The Jenkintown, Pa. native was also a two-time Catholic League MVP and All-Phillylacrosse.com pick and additionally earned ESPNHS All-American Second Team, All-EPSCLA, and All-Conference honors after leading the Explorers to a pair of state titles. Inside Lacrosse ranked Forster as the #8 freshman attackman in the nation and the 16th overall recruit. He was a four-year varsity letterwinner at La Salle College High and also earned All-State recognition in football. Forster was nominated for the Reebok High School Lacrosse Player of the Year Award and earned the Ed Nordberg Director’s Circle Scholarship.

A.J. Ilchert • Defense • West Islip, N.Y. • West Islip • Sports Marketing
An All-County and All-Division selection out of West Islip, N.Y., Ilchert was named to the Suffolk rising freshman, sophomore, and junior teams en route to earning Under Armour All-American honors. Ilchert captained the Lions of West Islip to Long Island, county, and state championships and earned the title of Mr. Ground Ball. Ilchert was the recipient of both the Walter Chip Schmitt Award Scholarship and Reilly Family Scholarship, and his favorite lacrosse moments include winning the state championship and defeating Smithtown West as a senior.

Connor Kearnan • Attack • Courtice, Ont. • St. Stephen’s Secondary • Accounting
An NSCLA All-American and SJU’s only international recruit this season, Kearnan arrives on Hawk Hill out of Courtice, Ontario. The attackman led the Lions of St. Stephen’s Secondary in scoring both his junior and senior seasons to lead the squad to the OFSAA Finals, earning both OFSSA and team MVP honors, and to a 20-1 record as a senior. An All-Canada and All-Great Lakes All-Star selection, Kearnan additionally played lacrosse for Team Ontario U-19, Edge Lacrosse 2014, Whitby Warriors Jr. A, and Green Gaels Jr. B, and was a member of the Canadian National Championship team and leading scorer for the Brogden Cup Championship Team. Kearnan also was tabbed the Midget Gaels “Most Dedicated” and earned a bronze medal at the Ontario Summer Games. Off of the lacrosse field, Kearnan earned bronze medals with the badminton and hockey teams at St. Stephen’s Secondary and earned team MVP, Most Dedicated, and Leadership awards as an AA hockey goalkeeper. Kearnan was a member of the honor roll at St. Stephen’s Secondary, and his favorite lacrosse moments include being named the Most Valuable Player at OFSAA and competing in the Dick’s Tournament of Champions in Florida with EDGE.

Jason Kelly • Attack • Kennett Square, Pa. • Salesianum (Del.) • Food Marketing
A two-time U.S. Lacrosse All-American and three-time All-State selection, the 2014 Delaware Player of the Year led the Sallies of Salesianum to three consecutive Delaware State Championship titles and to a 16-2 record as a senior last season. Kelly led the squad in scoring with 60+ goals in both his junior and senior seasons and was selected the 2013 Offensive Player of the Year and 2014 MVP. The attackman out of Kennett Square, Pa. was a four-year varsity letterwinner and senior team captain for the Sallies. Academically, Kelly made the honor roll every semester of high school and was a member of the National Honor Society at Salesianum. Kelly played club lacrosse for Man Up Lacrosse and SoCo Lacrosse, and his favorite lacrosse moment was scoring the game-winning goal with just seconds remaining against the #1 ranked team in California.

Jake Matier • Defense • Garnet Valley, Pa. • Garnet Valley • Finance
A defenseman out of Garnet Valley, Pa., Matier captained the Jaguars to a 15-6 record as a senior and was a two-time Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip selection and Top 205 All-Star throughout his career at Garnet Valley. Matier also captained the ice hockey team at Garnet Valley, where he led the squad to the league championship, received the Ice Hockey Ambassador Award, and earned All-League honors after leading all league defensemen in points. He was also an honor roll student and peer mentor at Garnet Valley and a member of the HeadStrong Lacrosse Foundation. Matier’s favorite lacrosse moment was beating Great Valley in the state playoffs of his junior year, in honor of Kip Taviano.

Brendan McNicholas • Defense • West Grove, Pa. • Avon Grove • Food Marketing
A two-time All-ChesMont selection out of West Grove, Pa., McNicholas led the Red Devils of Avon Grove to a 20-5 record as a senior en route to being named to the 2014 All-Eastern Pennsylvania Lacrosse Coaches Association Team and All-Chester County First Team. During his career at Avon Grove, McNicholas earned the 2014 Outstanding Senior Athlete Lacrosse Award and School Spirit Athlete Award and the 2013 Most Improved Player Award and was selected to the 2013 Philadelphia Under Armour Team. The defenseman led the Red Devils to the 2014 PIAA State Finals and 2013 PIAA State Semi-Finals, a pair of District One titles, and the 2013 ChesMont League co-title. The West Grove, Pa. native earned distinguished academic honors at Avon Grove and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America organization. His favorite lacrosse moment includes claiming back-to-back district titles with Avon Grove and making the Philadelphia Under Armour Team.

Scott Scheuerle • Midfield • Gladwyne, Pa. • St. Joseph’s Prep • Business
Scheuerle is a three-time All-Catholic selection out of St. Joseph’s Prep, where he led the team in scoring in both his sophomore and junior seasons and guided the Hawks to a 14-6 record as a senior last year. As a freshman at Harriton, Scheuerle also earned All-Main Line Honorable Mention accolades and was named the Offensive MVP after leading the squad in scoring in his rookie season. Academically, Scheuerle made First Honors as a senior at St. Joseph’s Prep, and his favorite lacrosse moment was being a part of the Catholic League championship game for three consecutive years.

Austin Smith • Defense • Olney, Md. • Our Lady of Good Counsel • Business
An All-State, All-County, All-WCAC, and All-Met HM selection out of Olney, Md., Smith was recognized as a Maryland Player of the Year finalist after leading the Falcons of Our Lady of Good Counsel to an 8-7 record as a senior. The two-year defensive captain was named the overall team MVP after leading the team in ground balls and caused turnovers and ranking in the top five in scoring and points. Smith was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars at Our Lady of Good Counsel, served as a freshman retreat leader and Xaverian leader, and was involved with the Camden Service Trip. Smith’s favorite lacrosse moments included inspiring his teammates before games and celebrating after games.

Dale Stasco • Midfield • Garden City, N.Y. • Garden City • Business
A 2014 All-Conference selection, Stasco led the Trojans of Garden City to a 15-3 record as a senior and to the 2013 state title. Stasco was also a two-year starter for the Garden City varsity football team and was the starting kicker for the 2012 Long Island Championship squad. Academically, the Garden City, N.Y. native earned First Honors at Garden City. Stasco’s favorite lacrosse moment was when he scored the game-winning goal with two seconds remaining in the 2013 state semi-finals.

Davis Stoner • Midfield • Andover, N.J. • Pope John XXIII • Business
A 2014 All-State Honorable Mention and NJAC All-Conference First Team selection, Stoner led the Lions of Pope John XXIII in points and ground balls for three consecutive years. The 2014 Muggs Media Player of the Year was a three-time All-Rizk Division and All-Herald selection and a three-year team captain and MVP, leading the Lions of Pope John XXIII to an 11-8 record as a senior last season. Stoner also earned letters in soccer and ice hockey and earned 2012 All-State honors for soccer. A native of Andover, N.J., Stoner’s favorite lacrosse moment was netting a behind-the-back goal for the game-winner in triple overtime of his sophomore year.

Jon Weinstein • Defense • West Chester, Pa. • Bishop Shanahan • Chemical Biology
A two-time All-ChesMont and All-Area selection, Weinstein led the Eagles of Bishop Shanahan to back-to-back league titles and to an 18-3 record in his senior season. Weinstein was a two-year captain for the Eagles and made the honor roll all four of his years at Bishop Shanahan. A defenseman out of West Chester, Pa., Weinstein’s favorite moment was clinching the 2014 ChesMont League Championship on Senior Night.
