Freshman attack Nora McCallion (Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. This marks the first A-10 weekly award of the season for both McCallion and Saint Joseph’s.

In a 1-0 week, McCallion led all SJU freshmen in scoring with one goal and three assists on Thursday in SJU’s 19-1 win over Delaware State. The rookie also recorded two shots and picked up two ground balls in the win.

On the season, McCallion leads all Saint Joseph’s freshmen in scoring (3G, 3A) and has landed three of her four total shots on goal for a .750 SOG percentage.

McCallion and the Hawks return to action at Manhattan this Saturday, March 8. Start time in Riverdale, N.Y. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Temple’s Tabor (Downingtown West) wins BIG EAST honor

Temple senior Jaymie Tabor (Downingtown West) was named the BIG EAST Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on March 4, for her impressive performance in the Owls’ 10-8 win over Oregon on March 1.

Tabor scored six goals for the third time in her career, this time helping Temple edge out Oregon in its only game of the week. Tabor completed a hat trick within the first eight minutes of the game, helping the Owls jump out to a 3-1 lead. She scored another goal before halftime and two more during a 4-0 run that helped the Owls build a 9-5 lead, and they would need every goal as the Ducks fought back to within one, 9-8 by the final two minutes.

Tabor has 11 goals over three games played this season and ranks second in the BIG EAST with 3.67 goals per game.

Lafayette’s Curtin (Penn Charter), Avallone gain Patriot awards

Lafayette women’s lacrosse senior Meghan Curtin (Penn Charter) and freshman Charlotte Avallone (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) have been named Patriot League Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the League announced Tuesday afternoon.

Curtin was stellar in front of the goal for the Leopards in a pair of 12-6 wins last week. The Lafayette Hill, Pa. native made 14 saves in the two games, including nine in the win over Monmouth on Feb. 26. Curtin currently ranks in the top three in the Patriot League in save percentage and goals against average.

Avallone picks up Lafayette’s second rookie of the week honor in a row, following Amanada Case who earned the award last week. Avallone tallied five goals in the Leopards’ two games last week. The Manhasset, N.Y. native scored four goals in Lafayette’s 12-6 win over Binghamton on March 1.

George Washington’s Bumgardner (Gwynedd Mercy Academy) gains A-10 award

George Washington junior attack Jamie Bumgardner (Gwynedd Mercy Academy) was named the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Bumgardner helped GW (3-1) to a 2-0 week with home wins over Liberty and Davidson to lift the Colonials to a 3-0 mark at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for the second time in program history.

Bumgardner recorded averages of 3.0 goals, 4.50 assists and 7.50 points in the Colonials’ consecutive victories as she set single-game program records and improved her standing in the GW record book. In the Buff and Blue’s 21-10 victory over Liberty on Wednesday, Bumgardner paced the squad with a program-record 12 points on six goals and a single-game mark of six assists. She then helped GW to an 8-7 win over future A-10 foe Davidson on Saturday when she dished out three assists, moving into third all-time with 56 career helpers. Bumgardner also picked up four ground balls and won three draw controls.

The Hatfield, Pa., product leads conference and the nation with 4.0 assists per game and ranks atop the A-10 and third in NCAA Division I with 16 total assists. Bumgardner is also tied for fifth in D-I in points per game (6.75), tied for ninth in the country in points (27), and she leads the league in both categories.

Lehigh claims three Patriot honors

Lehigh sophomore Kendall Garden has been named Patriot League Midfield Player of the Week and freshman Krista Dampman earned Rookie of the Week honors after career efforts against Binghamton and New Hampshire. Garden posted three goals, four assists, nine groundballs, eight caused turnovers and a draw control as the Mountain Hawks fell to Binghamton before bouncing back with an impressive 9-5 win at UNH. Dampman scored five goals, including four at New Hampshire.

Garden filled up the stat sheet, scoring two goals while adding two assists, four groundballs and career-high four caused turnovers against Binghamton Tuesday. The Mountain Hawks held the Bearcats to just 15 shots.

The Davidsonville, Md. native was stellar again at UNH Saturday. As one of just three Mountain Hawks to post a point, Garden had a goal, two assists, career-high five groundballs and four caused turnovers. Lehigh held the Wildcats to a season-low five goals. The Mountain Hawks improved to 2-1 on the season.

For the season, Garden is second on the team in scoring with nine points (four goals, five assists), leading the way in assists, groundballs (10) and caused turnovers (12).

Dampman enjoyed a breakout week with five goals, scoring her first-career goal against Binghamton Tuesday while adding a groundball and draw control. She followed it up by scoring four of the team’s nine goals at UNH. Dampman is fourth on the team in scoring for the season.

Junior Carli Suknoik (Harriton) was also recognized with honorable mention laurels on the weekly honor roll. Sukonik scored six goals over the two games, including four against the Wildcats.
