Haverford School Head Coach, John Nostrant, a prostate cancer survivor, said, “The Haverford School is an all boys school which fits well with the mission of the event which is supporting those affected by men’s cancers. We like to focus on awareness and early detection. By educating the whole family, including sisters and wives and moms (who can also get colorectal cancer), we improve the chance of catching these diseases early.”
Checking For Cancer honors Nostrant and the many men and families who have faced their ultimate struggle against cancer. Although it is a male patient population that we are focusing on, these cancers affect the whole family as the patient leans on loved ones for support during treatments. Nostrant has exhibited the strength and character to successfully conquer the cancer battlefield, and looks forward every year to being able to raise funds to help other families who are in the midst of their own cancer experiences.
On the business side, CFC has raised over $180,000 in just five years, with all event profits earmarked for cancer research and for those organizations in need of special support. In 2013, $30,000 was donated to Cuddle my Kids (www.cuddlemykids.org), The Kimmel Cancer Center, Bringing Hope Home (www.bringinghopehome.org), and The University of Pennsylvania.
Checking for Cancer directors are encouraging everyone to visit the CFC website at https://www.checkingforcancer.org/ and make a donation, become a sponsor, and recognize a player (or family member) as part of the event program book.
New this year, we are also offering an online event store in participation with Wave One Sports. The link and password for the store are as follows http://www.waveonesports.com/cart/schools.php. The password (case sensitive) is CFC2014. We are excited to take this next step in our efforts and have selected a few items that we thought would be particularly appealing for players, families and friends. Please help us in our mission by visiting the store using the link AND PASSWORD below. The current store run would allow for all merchandise to be received in time for the event, but you must act soon.
This event has been successful every year because of our corporate sponsors, patrons, program book advertisers and admission donations. We thank everyone in advance for their enthusiastic support and for their interest in learning more about male cancers. There will be lots of information available on the day of the event for you to read and take home. Help us spread the word about early detection! You could save a life.
Please visit www.checkingforcancer.org to learn more about this charity event and to and make a donation to help us make a difference.
