Devon Scharf

High School: Lower Merion High School

Graduation Year: 2015

Position: Goalie

College Choice: Cabrini College

Club Affiliation: Quaker City Lacrosse

Lacrosse Honors: 2011 Maccabi Bronze Medal, 2012 Maccabi Silver Medal, 2013 and 2014 Maccabi Gold Medal, 2014 Brine National Lacrosse Classic

What will you major in/study? Exercise Science

Why did you choose Cabrini? “Ever since I went for my first visit I fell in love and knew that I wanted to go there. It’s a perfect fit for both academics and athletics.

“They have a really great Exercise Science program with really caring professors and after watching both their field hockey and lacrosse teams I couldn’t stay away. Every time I visited everyone would always rage about how much they love Coach Jackie (Neary) who is both the field hockey and lacrosse coach.”

Outlook for 2015 HS team? “With the graduation of only one senior last year I think we have a chance at being a strong team this year. We had a really young team last year and it was more of a building year for us also with the addition of two new amazing coaches. We have a strong group of girls coming back and I have heard nothing but good news about these incoming freshmen.”

Thank You: “I’d like to start with my amazing parents supporting me every step of the way. From driving hours to tournaments, to sitting in less then ideal conditions, to making it their jobs not to miss a single game, I can’t thank them enough.

“I’d also like to thank my school coaches for all of the wonderful things they have done for me. Coach Baylis for turning me into a goalie, Coach Gretchen for supporting me in every way and Coach Alex for making me the goalie that I am today. I also want to thank Coach Vanhorn for supporting me and giving me a place to keep my big bag during the day.

“Another huge thank you I’d like to send to my club coaches. From Coach D and Coach Andy and all of the Quaker City coaches, to my Maccabi coaches Erica and Laura, to my Brine Coaches Kelli and Brooke and all the other coaches that I have learned from in my 9 years of playing lacrosse. Everyone was so helpful along the way encouraging me and making me the player that I am today.

“Last but not least goes out to all of my Lower Merion and Quaker City teammates that I have played with. You guys have pushed me harder then I ever thought I could go and I can’t thank you enough. You also have created the best memories that will last a lifetime.”
