From Press Release
The Misericordia men’s lacrosse team recently held its annual alumni game. For the third year, this game has been known as the “Matt Davis Alumni game”, in memory of the former Garnet Valley and Misericordia player who was tragically killed on March 17, 2012. All the alumni wear #7, Matt’s number during his 4 year career at Misericordia.
Prior to the game the first annual “Matt Davis Award” was presented to Jared Hunt, a product of Northern York High School and the 2014 player who best exemplified Davis’ qualities.
The award reads as follows:
“This award is given each year in memory of Matt Davis, a young man on the Misericordia Men’s Lacrosse team who exemplified terrific qualities. Matt was a loving, caring teammate and a true gentleman at all times. He loved his family, teammates, and the outdoors. He was dedicated, committed and always worked hard on and off the field; a true teammate that made others better just by being around him. He had a true love of the game and a love of life. Matt motivated others and he always had a smile that would lighten up the darkest days.”
Matt’s life and legacy on and off the field continue to be an inspiration to his teammates and the current and future members of the Misericordia lacrosse family.
