The Saint Joseph’s men’s lacrosse team was picked to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference according to the NEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, conference officials announced on Monday afternoon.
Saint Joseph’s enters its first season as an NEC associate member after three years in the Colonial Athletic Association as an associate. The Hawks return all 10 starters and 23 letterwinners overall from last year’s team that went 5-11 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Sophomore attackman Pat Swanick (St. Joseph’s Prep) will be returning for his second season with the Hawks. Last season, Swanick was the first player in program history to earn CAA postseason honors as he was a CAA All-Rookie selection. Swanick led the team in points (28) and goals (22). Also back for the Hawks is junior attackman Matt Sarcona, who finished second on the team in goals (14) and third in total points (19) a year ago. Saint Joseph’s has posted a 19-17 record against NEC lacrosse playing institutions. Saint Joseph’s will begin the 2014 season at High Point on February 15.
Two-time defending tournament champion Bryant was picked to finish first according to the preseason poll conducted by the league’s seven head coaches. Hobart and Robert Morris were picked to finish second. The Hawks and Sacred Heart were voted fourth and fifth, respectively. Mount St. Mary’s and Wagner rounded out the seven-team poll.
