From Press Release
Chris Duffy (Abington), Brian Monks and Rob Zecher have been tabbed men’s lacrosse tri-captains for the upcoming 2015 season, as announced by 10th-year head coach Peter Lawrence. The trio has enjoyed successful careers both on and off the field for the Hawks and will look to lead the squad to the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011.
“These guys were elected by their peers to captain the squad for the 2015 season because they lead the charge both on and off the field,” Lawrence commented. “They understand that it is a great honor and responsibility, and we as a coaching staff are confident in our team’s selections.”
Duffy is a junior defender from Willow Grove, Pa., who has started and played in 24 career games since making his debut as a freshman in 2013. Despite missing a pair of contests last season with an injury, he led the Hawks with 18 caused turnovers, a number that is the sixth-most in a single season in Hartford’s Division I history. Currently, he ranks fifth in the career record books with 25 caused turnovers. A civil engineering major who holds a 3.64 GPA, Duffy was one of four Hawks to earn America East All-Academic Team honors in 2014.
A senior defender, Monks has seen his time on the field increase significantly since arriving at Hartford from Bellmore, N.Y., for the 2012 season. After playing in four games as a freshman, he logged time in 12 contests as a sophomore in 2013 and did not miss a game in 2014. Last season, he recorded a career-high 21 ground balls and scored his first career point on a goal in Hartford’s season-opening win at Richmond last February. Off the field, Monks is a two-time America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll member who is currently working towards his Master of Business Administration. In May, he graduated from the Barney School of Business 3.86 GPA as an economics and finance major.
Rounding out the tri-captains is senior midfielder Rob Zecher. With 25 career games under his belt, the Merrick, N.Y. native enters his final season in the Scarlet and White with three points, 12 ground balls and one caused turnover. Zecher was named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2012 for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. He currently holds a 3.26 GPA with a major in entrepreneurial studies.
