From Press Release
Four games against teams ranked in the top 20 of the 2015 Face-Off Yearbook rankings and a pair of neutral site contests highlight the 2015 men’s lacrosse schedule.
The Leopards will also take on two teams from last year’s NCAA Tournament, including defending conference champion Loyola and Penn. Lafayette will also play a handful of new opponents during its out of conference schedule, including Sacred Heart, University of Maryland Baltimore County and NJIT.
“I am looking forward to our 2015 campaign,” said Head coach Jim Rogalski. “With our always tough Patriot League schedule, some new out of conference opponents and our participation in the CityLax and HEADstrong events, this spring will prove to be full of challenges and excitement.”
Lafayette opens the campaign with three straight road games in February. The Leopards face off against Wagner in the season opener on Feb. 13, followed by a pair of Patriot League games at Colgate on Feb. 21 and at No. 18 Army on Feb. 28.
The Leopards’ home opener will be played March 3 against No. 12 Penn at Fisher Stadium, followed by the team’s first home Patriot League game on March 10 versus Navy. Up next, Lafayette travels to Boston on March 14 and Sacred Heart on March 17.
The first of two neutral site games will be played in New York City on March 22 against No. 7 Loyola as part of the inaugural CityLax NYC Classic. The game will be played at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium at Columbia University in New York City.
CityLax is a nonprofit organization dedicated to growing the game of lacrosse in underserved schools and communities in New York City. The CityLax NYC Lacrosse Classic marks the first time Men’s Division I teams will play in Manhattan and all proceeds will support CityLax’s lacrosse programming and educational development.
A trip to UMBC is next for the Leopards on March 27, followed by a home contest against Monmouth on March 31. The Leopards’ longest homestand of the season continues against Holy Cross on April 4, and finishes with NJIT on April 7.
Lafayette will participate in the Third Annual Relentless Cup at Ridley High School in Folsom, Pa. on April 11. This year’s event will feature a collegiate doubleheader pairing Cabrini College vs. Keystone College in Division III action as well the heavily anticipated Division I Patriot League rivalry of Lafayette vs. Bucknell.
The Relentless Cup is a special fundraising lacrosse event uniting communities in support of the HEADstrong Foundation by combining interstate youth games, high school and college games. The event was introduced in 2012 as a new spring fundraising event to support the HEADstrong Foundation’s fight against blood cancers.
Proceeds from The Relentless Cup will support Nick’s House, the Nicholas E. Colleluori Lymphoma Research Fund and the quality of life services for cancer patients and families provided by the HEADstrong Foundation.
The Leopards will close out the regular season at rival Lehigh on April 17.
The Patriot League Tournament is slated to begin on April 21 with the quarterfinals at the higher seeds. The semifinals are scheduled for April 24 with the championship game set for April 26.
