Eric Gregg, who guided St. Joseph’s Prep to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association championship game in 2011, has resigned as head coach after six successful seasons.
Gregg posted a record of 86-36 and five runner-up finishes in the Catholic League, which has only been granted one berth in the PIAA/District 12 playoffs.
Gregg’s biggest year was in 2011 when the Hawks defeated arch-rival La Salle, 8-6, to win their first Catholic League title in eight years. St. Joe’s advanced to the state final where it fell to Conestoga, 13-4.
The Prep also had some wins over National powers during Gregg’s tenure. This year the Hawks downed MIAA champion Loyola Blakefield and in 2013 they toppled Conestoga. In 2011 they defeated Malvern Prep and in 2010 they handed Episcopal Academy and St. Anthony’s (NY) defeats.
Gregg also is co-founder of the LEAPS lacrosse program, which provides programs and training in the inner-city around the region.
As a goalie at Episcopal Academy, Gregg helped EA to win back-to-back PSLA Championships in 1995 and 1996. Gregg prepped at Lawrenceville School and was named lacrosse team MVP. He played at Gettysburg College which won four consecutive conference championships and went to back-to-back NCAA Division III National Championship games in 2001 and 2002.
Gregg was an assistant at both Lower Merion and Penn Charter and helped guide the Quakers to the EPSLA Final Four in 2008.
Gregg also played one season as a goalie for the Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse.
