Tickets remain for the Third Annual EVANFEST Lacrosse Banquet, which will be held on Thursday, Nov. 20 at Drexelbrook Catering in Drexel Hill.

The event fittingly honors a youth tournament and foundation in Evan Brady’s name that has raised over $800,000 in funds for families with children that have life-threatening diseases. The Foundation and tournament are completely run by volunteers.Evanfest

Individual banquet tickets are $85; the event runs from, 6:30-9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here, preferably by Monday, Nov. 17 at the latest. The first hour of the program features an open bar and time for attendees to mingle.

This event is a celebration of the Philadelphia Lacrosse Community and its dedication to recognizing the many ways the community assists in helping people’s lives off the field as well as on the field. The success of the foundation has helped grow the fundraising drive well beyond the region through the lacrosse community.

This year’s special guest speaker is Johns Hopkins coach Dave Pietremala, who coached the US National this year with last year’s speaker, Penn State coach Jeff Tambroni.

“We want to extend the reach of the foundation as much as possible,” said Foundation volunteer Matt Mackrides, a former Malvern Prep and Penn State standout who played under Pietramala as a member of the US team. “Coach Petro coached me on the US team and coached other guys that went to Malvern and he has seen the impact Evan had on us as human beings in the lacrosse community and what Evan has meant to the Philly lacrosse community.”

Mackrides also played for two years under Tambroni, who he said was clearly moved last year by being involved in the program.

“He (Pietramala) is excited to be a part of it,” said Mackrides. “Coach Tambroni coached me for two years at Penn State and he knew about Evanfest. but I don’t think he realized the gravity of the event until he was here (last year). he was blown away by (its impact).”

Evan Brady was a youth lacrosse standout who battled osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) for several years until passing away at the age of 19 in 2005. The ninth annual EVANFEST lacrosse festival will be held in April of 2015 at Malvern Prep. EVANFEST draws more than 40 boys’ youth lacrosse teams in the U-15 and U-13 divisions.

The Master of Ceremonies for the event again is Philly lacrosse standout goalie Brian Dougherty, the head coach at Chestnut Hill College and a recent inductee into the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Another special guest speaker will be Evan’s friend, Malvern Prep grad Chris Marcozzi, who overcame several serious illnesses and played goalie at Franklin and Marshall. Also, a caseworker who works with children that have received grants through Evanfest will speak about the amazing impact the Foundation has had on some of the grantees.

“This will be the first time somebody who has actually worked with people one-on-one that we have provided grants for and who have been battling illnesses wil speak,” said volunteer Andrew Mackrides. “She is going to give background tied into Evanfest. She sees what we see as the Evanfest Foundation and what it has done for patients.”
