District 1 girls playoffs: No. 25 Villa Maria Academy stuns No. 8 Strath Haven, 11-10

Kailyn Angelo scored the game-winner with two minutes and 30 seconds left to give visiting Villa Maria Academy a stunning 11-10 victory over eighth-seeded Strath Haven today in the first round of the District 1 girls’ lacrosse tournament.

Villa Maria (16-2), co-champions of the Catholic Academies League, is the 25th seed. The Hurricanes will advance to play at ninth-seeded Henderson Thursday in the second round. Henderson advanced by downing North Penn, 20-3.

Villa was led by Amelia Iacobucci (three goals, two assists, five groundballs), Audrey Fantazzia (three goals, one assist), Katie Manta (two gaols, three groundballs, five draw controls), and Angelo (two goals, three groundballs and five draw controls).

Bri Irons (four goals, one assist) and Suzanna Penikis (four goals) led Strath Haven (11-7).
