From Press Release
Kyle Hofstaedter has been named head men’s lacrosse coach at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.
Hofstaedter comes to Calvin after serving as an assistant coach with the Eastern University (PA) men’s lacrosse program this past year where he helped the Eagles win the Middle Atlantic Conference title and receive a bid to the 2014 NCAA III Tournament. During the season, Eastern defeated #11 ranked York University for the program’s first victory against a ranked opponent. The Eastern men’s lacrosse team also had one All-American and one Scholar All-American this spring.
In his three seasons at Rollins, Hofstaedter helped coach multiple players to all-conference honors. He also served as an adjunct professor in the Physical Education Department at Rollins.
Before Rollins, Hofstaedter spent two seasons at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa. While at DeSales, Hofstaedter served in multiple roles as the defensive coordinator, recruiting assistant, and equipment manager. During his time there, he helped coach two First Team All-MAC Conference players. Prior to DeSales, Hofstaedter helped coach the Penn Premier Lacrosse Club
A native of Perkasie and a graduate of Pennridge, Hofstaedter is a 2007 graduate of Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia where he was a member of the school’s Division I men’s lacrosse team as a close defender. Hofstaedter was graduated from Saint Joseph’s with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. At St. Joseph’s, he helped his team finish second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 2007 while also receiving MAAC All-Academic honors twice.
He also holds an M.S. in international marketing from Saint Joseph’s University and holds a teaching certification in business and computer technology from Gwynedd-Mercy College (PA).
Hofstaedter carries Dutch citizenship and has been a member of the Dutch National lacrosse team during the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Championships. In 2008, he helped the Dutch National team to a silver medal finish at the European Championships.
While coaching at Eastern University this past year, Hofstaedter worked for the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers as a client development executive.
Hofstaedter will be taking over a Calvin men’s lacrosse team entering its third season as a varsity program and he is eager for the challenge.
“I am very excited to join the Calvin College family,” said Hofstaedter. “Calvin is a Christian institution that also features excellence in academics and athletics. With that tradition as a base, I am confident that we can continue to build the men’s lacrosse program at Calvin.”
Calvin director of men’s athletics Dr. Jim Timmer is also happy to bring Hofstaedter on board. “I am very pleased to bring Kyle in as our men’s lacrosse coach,” said Timmer. “He has a diverse and impressive background in athletics and academics. I am excited to see him work with the student-athletes with our men’s lacrosse team.”
Hofstaedter has ties to the state of Michigan as his wife Meaghan is a native of Mason (MI) and a graduate of Central Michigan University. His mother-in-law and father-in-law are currently residents of Traverse City.
