The 22nd Annual Philadelphia Lacrosse Association Golf Outing took place on Columbus Day, October 13th, at Bidermann Golf Club in Greenville, Delaware. One hundred twenty-four golfers and 25 corporate and individual sponsors braved the elements and helped the PLA raised approximately $25,000 to further the PLA’s mission.

The PLA will use much of the proceeds to continue supporting the Philadelphia School District’s middle grades program, which features 8 teams (4 boys/4 girls), and the 12 PIAA sanctioned high school teams (6 boys/6 girls) in the City. Golf Classic proceeds will also help the PLA conduct high school and youth coaches’ clinics, sponsor area charitable tournaments, provide new start grants and stage both the induction ceremony for the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame (Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter) at Plymouth Whitemarsh Country Club in February 2015 and the High School Awards and Recognition Banquet at the Radnor Hotel in June 2015. Over the years, the PLA Golf Outing has raised over to $400,000.

The PLA has used those proceeds to support lacrosse program and other causes and initiatives in Greater Philadelphia, Lehigh County, Northeastern Pennsylvania and Central Pennsylvania, which was originally part of the PLA’s Chapter territory but has grown to become a separate chapter of US Lacrosse.

Bidermann proved to be a popular and scenic venue for the annual event, even in conditions reminiscent of golf in the British Isles. It was once the private course of Henry Francis du Pont at his Winterthur estate. Golfers found the course, and particularly the greens, challenging. To a person, participants we excited to have a chance to play a course with such memorable views and vistas. Many were pleased to discover a course that is known in golf circles as a “Hidden Gem.” Participants enjoyed the festivities notwithstanding the wetness and wind, including the post-golf reception and banquet at the Vic Mead Country Club.

The PLA Golf Outing this year was held in “In Loving Memory” of dear friends in the lacrosse community who passed away since the 2013 golf classic last October, including Dante DeSimone, Patrick Growney, Cullen Keffer, Stephen Miller, Jonathan Allan Moules and Carole Wakefield.
