More than 100 7th and 8th graders took their shots at a chance to play lacrosse at Citizens Bank Park tonight on the first day of tryouts for the Middle School All-Star Teams that will represent Pennsylvania at the Philly Charity Showdown.
The tryouts were held at the Conshohocken Proving Grounds (Tees Golf). The 8th grade tryouts drew 70 players – from as far as Hershey – while 40 tried out for the 7th grade team; each squad will play New Jersey teams before the four club games on Nov. 14 at the Charity Showdown at Citizens Bank Park.
The second PA tryout will be held Thursday at the Proving Grounds with the 7th grade at 5 p.m. and the 8th graders at 8 p.m.
A year ago, the Charity Showcase raised more than $30,000 in net proceeds, the entirety of which was donated to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Minds Matter Initiative.
“The games and tryouts are an opportunity to give more people exposure to the Philly Charity Showdown and what we’re supporting,” Director of Showcase Lacrosse Brett Manney said. “NXT has partnered with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital this year, with all net proceeds from the tryouts and Showdown benefiting its Comprehensive Concussion Center, which is a great cause, especially with the amount of attention and awareness that concussions are getting. These games also offer a chance for more kids, especially younger ones, to be able to play under the lights of Citizens Bank Park.”
New Jersey’s tryouts are Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 16 from 6:30-8, and will be held at The Lawrenceville School. Click here to sign up for tryouts.
