Lafayette men’s lacrosse head coach Jim Rogalski unveiled the addition of 15 members to the program’s class of 2018 on Friday. This year’s class boasts seven in-state players as well as three from New Jersey and two from New York, including a transfer from Hofstra. One each from Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland round out the group.

“My staff and I are very excited about this class’ arrival on College Hill and believe we’re bringing in a group of high-quality individuals from great high school programs,” Rogalski said. “From top to bottom, this class brings toughness, lacrosse IQ, leadership and talent to the program. The expectations are high for this group and we look forward to their immediate impact.”

The 2018 student-athletes consist of seven midfielders, four attackers, three defenders and a goalie. More information is available below.

Jack Appicciafuoco (6-3, 180 | Midfield | Haverford School | PA): Member of the Inter-AC Invitational Championship team…Participated in the HEADstrong Lacrosse Club, Haverford Finance Club, and the Varsity Water Polo team…Winner of the History Award and the Frank R. Ewing Jr. Oar Award.

Keith Cameron (6-2, 205 | Defense | Hatboro-Horsham H.S. | PA): Played four years of varsity lacrosse…Was named Defensive MVP his senior year and led a defense that allowed four goals per game between the 2013 and 2014 seasons…Twice named All-League on the defensive side for the two-time league champions…Also participated in football earning All-League honors on both sides of the ball…Member of the honor roll all four years.

Matt Close (5-9, 175 | Midfield | Wilson H.S. | PA): Named a US Lacrosse All-American in 2013 and 2014…Selected as the All-Berks Player of the Year his final two seasons, as well as earning All-Berks First Team Midfield honors his sophomore, junior and senior seasons…Amassed 317 points in his career, setting the Berks County lacrosse record in career points…Member of Berks County Championship teams in 2012, 2013 and 2014, as well as earning a District 3 runner-up nod in 2013 and 2014 and a PIAA Elite Eight appearance the past two seasons…Earned First Team Lancaster-Lebanon League Corner Back laurels and was selected to the Lancaster Lebanon League and Voices Berks Senior Classic All-Star games…Winner of the Wilson Lacrosse Founders Award, Rich Romig Award, Michael Ziolkowski Memorial Award, and the E. Jerry Brooks Academic Excellence Award…Was in the top 10% of his class academically all four years, graduating Magna Cum Laude and participating in the National Honor Society in 2013 and 2014.

George Cloud (6-4, 205 | Defense | Freeman H.S. | VA): Picked up 52 groundballs and scored four goals with one assist during his senior season…Selected as team captain his final year and led the team to a Richmond Group Championship…Earned All-State honors in 2014…Honored on the Dean’s and Headmaster’s Lists as an honor roll student.

Owen Green (5-10, 170 | Midfield | Haverford H.S. | PA): Selected as a team captain and scored 46 goals, good enough for third in Delaware County, his senior season…Named to the All-Central and All-Main Line Second Teams and earned the Ken Leonard Scholarship…Also participated in football as an All-Delco Football and Linebacker Central League Honorable Mention…Awarded the Boosters Scholarship for Academics and Performance for his football efforts.

Jack Kane (5-9, 185 | Defense | Lower Merion H.S. |PA):
Four-year varsity starter and named team captain his senior year…Earned All-Central League and All-Main Line honors…Also participated on the golf team for two years and captained his senior season…A National Merit Commended student, he was a member of the National Honor Society and won the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award.

Julian Lorenzen (6-0, 175 | Midfield | West Essex H.S. | NJ): Scored 39 goals and tallied 10 assists for 49 points in his senior season, captaining his team to a 12-8 overall mark…Named to the All-Division, All-State Group 1 North, and All-Super Essex Conference First Teams…Three times named to the honor roll.

Scott McAvoy (6-4, 205 | Attack/Midfield | Wyomissing Area H.S. | PA): Four-year starter and team captain…Earned US Lacrosse Academic All-American honors in 2014…Earned All-Berks First Team honors his final two seasons and participated on the team’s first PIAA state appearance in 2011…Participated in the First Annual Under Armour Uncommitted Game in 2013 and was a member of The Duke’s Lacrosse Club…Also participated in football as a starter and captain on the Country, District and PIAA Class AA State Championship football team in 2013…Member of the National Honor Society and an AP Scholar.

Will McCarthy (6-3, 185 | Midfield | Delbarton School | NJ):
Participated in two years of varsity lacrosse, tallying 26 goals and 26 assists during his senior season…Named to the Pitt-Fitch Division All-Star and NJAC American Division All-Star Second Teams, as well as an Honorable Mention on the Non Public All-State squad.

Alex Mezey (5-10, 170 | Attack | Conestoga H.S. | PA): Three-year varsity letter winner and team captain his senior season…Earned All-Central League and All-Main Line honors…Participated on the 2012 and 2013 Central League Championship teams, the 2012 PIAA State Championship team, and the 2013 PIAA State Runner-Up squad…Member of the first honor roll all four years and winner of the Pioneer Award for Leadership.

James Roberts (6-0, 170 | Attack/Midfield | Chaminade H.S. | NY): Two-year starter, leading his team to back-to-back CHSAA “AAA” State Championships…Tallied 24 goals and 10 assists during his career…Named as one of the top 100 players in the Tri-State by Lacrosse Insider and one of the top 100 players on Long Island by Newsday…Selected as a Brine All-American and represented Team USA in the Brogden Cup…Also participated in track and field as a member of the first 4x200m relay team in school history to qualify and run in the Millrose Games…Earned high honor roll laurels all four years and participated in the National Honor Society.

Luke Smith (6-0, 190 | Attack | Gonzaga College H.S. | DC): Played two years of varsity lacrosse, receiving the Coaches’ Award his senior season…Was Top-80 at the Baltimore Under Armour All-American tryout…Member of the WCAC championship team both seasons…Participated in the Roughriders Club Team, Gonzaga Jazz Ensemble, and was a two-year varsity squash player, finishing in fourth place at the national tournament…Named a John Phillip Sousa Saxophone Scholar and was a part of the Retreat Leadership and the Bowie Youth Leadership, earning honor roll all eight semesters.

Sean Thomas (6-0, 180 | Midfield | Bridgewater-Raritan H.S. | NJ): Three-year varsity lacrosse player and team captain his senior year…Participated on the 2012 Group 4 State, Somerset County, and Peak 200 All-Star championship teams…Member of the Two Knights Lacrosse Club and winner of the Michael Bruce Award.

Henry Vido (5-11, 170 | Goalie | Calvert Hall College H.S. | MD): Earned two varsity letters for lacrosse and was named a Loyola Rising Junior Shoot-Out All-Star, Top 205 All-Star Rising Junior, and Baltimore Summer Kick-off All-Star…Played club lacrosse for the Maryland Roughriders and was selected for Project 9.9…Was President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Vice President of the French Club as a perennial honor roll student…Coached U-11 FCA and Thunder Lacrosse Clubs, specializing in goalie training.

Giovanni Girardi (5-9, 190 | Midfield | Cold Spring Harbor H.S./Hofstra University Transfer | NY): Saw limited action in his freshman year at Hofstra in 2013, participating in five games…Played three years of high school varsity lacrosse earning All-County Honorable Mention honors in 2012…Member of the two-time Nassau Country Championship team in 2011 and 2012…Winner of the Seahawks Award and was ranked 16th in the 2012 ESPN High School top-25 Face-off rankings.
