Southern Lehigh High School sophomore midfielder Michael Nelson has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Vermont.
Michael Nelson log:
High School: Southern Lehigh High School
Graduation Year: 2016
College Choice: University of Vermont
Club Affiliations: NXT Lacrosse, Lehigh Valley Steam
Lacrosse Honors: 2013 Lehigh Valley Showcase All-Star, 52 Goals & 26 Assists in Sophomore Season
What will you major in/study? Civil Engineering
Why did you choose UVM? “I chose UVM for many reasons. Most important of which is for their high academic standards that includes the field of study I plan to pursue. Also, I loved the campus and everything it had to offer, as well as the city of Burlington. The coaches are awesome and made me feel really comfortable. In addition, there is a new lacrosse stadium currently under construction. Overall, I feel UVM is a perfect fit for me.”
Outlook for your High School team? “This year, we made school history with our first ever District win. Although we graduate 7 starters and multiple other important guys, we have lots of guys with game experience looking to step up and play bigger roles. We should continue to have the same success we did this year and our goal is to make it to District finals and potentially win.”
Thank You: “I would first and foremost like to thank my parents for giving me the opportunities to play at the highest level and driving me around and supporting me through everything. I would also like to thank my brothers for being my fans and coming out and watching me play and pushing me to get better.
“Next, I want to thank all the guys at NXT, especially Coach Manney, for making me a better lacrosse player and helping out with the recruiting. NXT Lacrosse has been awesome and I am so glad I am part of the NXT family.
“Finally, I want to thank my High School coaches, Coach Boorse, Coach Lick, Coach Oleskowitz, and Coach Stemple, as well as my coaches throughout youth, Coach Amann and Coach Zamojski, for improving my game and making me a better person as well as a better player.”
