PIAA girls’ tournament roundup: Springfield-Delco, Great Valley, Garnet Valley take openers

Emily Santana collected five goals, one assist and eight draw controls to lead Springfield-Delco to an 11-8 victory over Downingtown East Wednesday in the opening round of the PIAA lacrosse tournament at West Chester East.

Kate Ryan added two goals and an assist and Cailyn Gormley scored twice while Kate Bedard posted 10 saves for the Cougars (22-2), who advance to play in the quarterfinals Saturday vs. Lancaster Country Day at a site and time to be determined. Lancaster CD, the District 3 runner-up, defeated Parkland, 16-9.

Nicole Barretta had four goals and Sarah Kolhoff added two for Downingtown East (17-6).

Great Valley 18, Manheim Township 6

Brittany Edwards poured in seven goals and Jessica Boyle added five goals and an assist for the Patriots (19-4).

The Pats advance to play Danville (14-0) – an 11-10 winner over Wyoming Seminary – in the quarterfinals on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

Maryn Bernhardt had three goals and an assist for Manheim Township (22-3).

Garnet Valley 13, Conestoga 11

Haley Warden and Emily Mathewson each had three goals and an assist and Erica Coyne tallied three goals for the Jaguars (21-2).

Abby Lord led Conestoga (14-10) with five goals and one assist.

    it is “Erica” Coyne not Jen for Garnet Valley.. Jen is her aunt that was the star player in the 80’s for Marple Newtown… Lol!!!
