Dylan Alderman scored four goals and Jason Yoquinto posted 13 saves as host Bishop Shanahan toppled Avon Grove, 10-7, Thursday to take sole possession of first place in the Ches-Mont League.
The win lifted the Eagles – ranked No. 5 by phillylacrosse.com – to 7-0 in the league and 10-1 overall. The seventh-ranked Devils are 7-1 in the league and 10-4 overall.
Yoquinto had 11 saves in the second half when the Eagles outscored Avon Grove, 5-0, during a stretch after falling behind.
“I came out here in the second half and just got fired up after that first save,” Yoquinto said. “I was seeing the ball much better and it was all fundamentals for me.”
Avon Grove seized a 6-5 lead on a goal by Ryan Cook in the third period, but John Mehok scored on a man-up situation to tie it late in the period.
Pat Corcoran picked up a loose ball and put the Eagles ahead, 7-6, with 8:31 to play and then Alderman scored off the man-up to make it 8-6. Sam Montgomery and Alderman then added late goals to give Shanahan a commanding 10-6 lead.
“Our kids are strong mentally and just rode it through,” said Shanahan coach Jon Heisman. “(But) we are not done yet and have three games left and we can’t get too comfortable. We will take it one game at a time.”
