Rachel Hughes notched the game-winner with five minutes left as host Unionville claimed an 8-7 victory over Patterson Mill (MD) Saturday in non-league girls’ lacrosse.
The Indians improved to 1-2 after a tough overtime loss to Bishop Shanahan.
“This was a really big win for us,” said Unionville coach Wendy Landry. “In our last game we didn’t start playing until five minutes remained in the game. This time we fell behind, but the girls really picked it up and showed me something.”
Hughes finished with four goals and one assist, and Jillian Zubillaga had a goal and two assists.
The Indians fell behind 4-0 just 12 minutes into the game, but drew within 4-3 at halftime. Hughes also had put her team ahead 7-6 off a nice feed from Allie Malone.
Bayard Rustin 11, Marple Newtown 10, OT
Sam Cugini (four goals, one assist) scored in overtime for Rustin after Emily VanVladricken (four goals) tied it in the final minute of regulation.
Century (MD) 18, Conestoga 17, OT
Marriotts Ridge (MD) 17, Conestoga 7
Conestoga fell to 1-3 with the pair of losses to highly-ranked Maryland powers.
Scottie Growney pumped in six goals and Maggie Friel (three goals) and Liz Scott (two goals, two assists) were keys for Conestoga. Sondra Dickey and Abby Lord each scored two goals in the loss to Marriotts Ridge.
Garnet Valley 14, Hatboro-Horsham 8
Emily Mathewson had four goals and one assist and Haley Warden added two goals and three assists for the third-ranked Jaguars (4-0).
Episcopal Academy 11, Holton-Arms School (MD) 7
Corrine Zanolli and Emma Brumbaugh had three goals each to lead EA.
Wissahickon 15, Ridley 9
Lauren Irvine had five goals and an assist, Christina Tsiobikas scored four goals and Zoe Gomez added three goals and an assist while Julie Silverman posted 11 saves for the Trojans.
