BALTIMORE – Host Calvert Hall was dominant from the outset and Jack Kinnear scored six goals as the Cardinals defeated Conestoga (Pa.), 13-8, on Friday night.
Calvert Hall, No. 6 in the Warrior/TopLaxRecruits Rankings, improves to 7-1 and Conestoga falls to 2-1.
The Cardinals opened with three unanswered goals from Jason Brown, Braden Atkinson and Kinnear.
Then Conestoga got on the board with a score from Jake Scott (three goals), who was fed by Matt Schleicher (tweo goals, one assist).
But Calvert Hall went on another three unanswered goal run to close out the first quarter and gave the Cardinals a 6-1 lead. Conestoga, though, remained alive and pulled within four as Scott and Schleicher scored to make it 8-4 Calvert Hall with 32.2 left in half.
“I was happy that we scrapped and made some plays,” said Conestoga coach Brian Samson. “But it was a tough hill to climb and you can’t make mistakes against these guys.”
Kinnear also had two assists.
“We came out with a lot of intensity and we just took it to them,” said Kinnear.
Timmy Kelly also had a huge night for Calvert Hall with two goals and a whopping four assists. Calvert Hall also got another boost in goal from Joe McSorley. who made nine saves.
Head coach Bryan Kelly emphasized the importance of having a solid core of goalies heading into the MIAA schedule.
“I think he (McSorley) has been playing well,” he said. “We have four good goalies and there is always good competition. Joe has been playing well and he has done a good job for us.”
