Philly women’s Division III roundup: Swarthmore, Arcadia win

Sophomore Lizzie Kölln scored a career-high five goals and Corinne Sommi tallied four assists in leading the Swarthmore College women’s lacrosse team to a 17-4 rout of Eastern on Saturday, March 1 at Clothier Field.

Kölln and Sommi paced the Garnet with six points apiece. Kölln added an assist along with her career-high five goals, while Sommi had a team-leading four helpers and two goals. In addition to notching a hat trick, Caroline Murphy (Strath Haven) scooped up four ground balls and won three draw controls.

Swarthmore held a commanding 16-7 draw control advantage and an 11-6 advantage in ground balls. The Garnet also outshot the Eagles by a 34-16 margin.

Senior Michelle Ammerman picked up the win between the pipes for Swarthmore by making three saves in the first half. Connie Bowen, a sophomore, stopped all six shots she faced on target in the second frame. Cortney Andres, who turned away five shots and allowed 10 goals in the opening stanza, was tagged with the loss for Eastern.

Sara Blaylock had two goals for Eastern.

Arcadia 15, Widener 11

The Knights posted a non-conference victory over visiting Widener and in doing so improved to 3-0 for the year. This was the first game of the season for the Pride.

Haylee Molloy scored a game-high five goals for the Knights, Dawn while Faranetta finished with four goals and one assist. Jenna Crothers added three goals with a pair of assists, and Erin Misner finished with three goals, one assist and four draw controls. Sophomore goalie Jordyn Dunacusky (Plymouth Whitemarsh) improved her record to 3-0 after tallying a career-high 15 saves.

Junior attack Pinky Schneider scored two goals with three assists for the Pride, while Megan Granata (Cardinal O’Hara) and sophomore midfielder Caitlyn Mullner (Sun Valley) both finished with two goals and one assist.
