BALTIMORE – PNC Bank today expanded its support of regional high school lacrosse with the creation of the new PNC Lacrosse Invitational. The annual showcase begins this spring and features two games pairing four of the top 15 nationally ranked boys’ high school lacrosse teams, including The Haverford School, as well as teams from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
The inaugural matchups are set for Saturday, March 29, at Loyola University Maryland’s Ridley Athletic Complex. The first game faces off at 5:30 pm between Baltimore’s St. Paul’s School (ranked No. 7 in Warrior/TopLaxRecruits.com Preseason Rankings) and The Haverford School (No. 2) from Philadelphia. The second game pits Baltimore’s McDonogh School (No. 9) against Gonzaga College High School (No. 20) from Washington, D.C. at 7:30 pm.
“Lacrosse is a proud Maryland tradition and this three-year agreement gives PNC another opportunity to support the sport’s heritage and future by bringing together these regional powerhouses,” said Laura Gamble, regional president, PNC Bank, Greater Maryland. “This event brings together top lacrosse programs for an elevated level of competition while giving fans the opportunity to see playoff caliber matchups in mid-season.”
PNC is continuing to sponsor the Interscholastic Athletic Association (IAAM), Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) Lacrosse Championships. Since 2010 the bank has contributed nearly $120,000 to the scholarship and athletic programs of area schools that participated in the championship games.
