Weekend Philly boys’ D1 roundup: Pontrello, Pifani, Sankey among the standouts

Nikko Pontrello (St. Augustine Prep) scored six goals to lead Loyola to a 16-4 rout of Holy Cross Saturday in Patriot League men’s lacrosse.

UMBC 10, Monmouth 8

In Monmouth’s first varsity game ever, Tim Kemner (Kingsway Regional) had a goal, an assist and a groundball, Eric Berger (Penn Charter) had a goal and four GB and Chris Daley (Lower Merion) and Tyler Keen (Downingtown Weast) each scored once.

Also, goalie Nick Hreshko (La Salle) made six saves and yielded just four goals in one half of play, Andrew Grajewski (La Salle) had two GB and a CT, Zach Schleicher (Conestoga) had two GB and Kevin Murphy (Penn Charter) had one GB.

Virgina 19, Rutgers 12

Matt Barrett (Malvern Prep) made 10 saves to earn the win and Chris LaPierre (Shawnee) had a goal, five GB and a CT for the Cavs. Joe Lisicky (Unionville) added a CT.

For Rutgers, Rich Rambo (Abington) had two goals, an assist, a GB and a CT.

Towson 8, Georgetown 7

Max Siskind (Henderson) had a goal, two GB and a CT and Chris Vetter (Central Bucks East) had a GB.

Tyler Knarr (La Salle) won 11 of 19 face-offs for the Hoyas and added eight GB and an assist.

Bucknell 9, Navy 6

Jackson Place (Episcopal Academy) had two GB and two CT for Bucknell’s defense.

TJ Hanzsche (Malvern Prep) had a goal, an assist and two GB and Gabe Voumard (St. Augustine Prep) added a goal, an assist and two GB.

North Carolina 18, Dartmouth 5

Joey Sankey (Penn Charter) had three goals, four assists and six GB, Ryan Kilpatrick (Salesianum) had four GB and a CT and DEF Austin Pifani (Abington) had a goal, four GB and three CT.

Patrick Resch (La Salle) had two GB and a CT for Dartmouth.

Maryland 16, Syracuse 8

Matt Rambo (La Salle) had two goals, an assist, a GB and a CT, while Kevin Forster (La Salle) had a goal, an assist and two GB, Niko Amato (La Salle) made 11 saves for the Terps. Also, Goran Murray (Haverford School) had a CT, Casey Ikeda (Conestoga) had a GB and Mike Bender (Emmaus) had a GB to lead the defense.

Bobby Tait (Germantown Academy) had a GB and a CT for Syracuse.

Yale 10, St. John’s 6

Jeff Cimbalista (La Salle) scored once for Yale.

for St. John’s, Colin Keegan (Springfield-Delco) had a goal and a GB, Mark DiFrangia (La Salle) had two CT and a GB, Joe Addona (Springfield-Delco) had a GB and a CT, Connor Mullen (Downingtown West) had two GB.

Canisius 7, Air Force 6

Keith Dreyer (Malvern Prep) had an assist and three GB and Alex Warden (Garnet Valley) had two GB for Air Force.

Fairfield 18, Manhattan 4

Eric Warden (Garnet Valley) scored three goals to lead Fairfield.

Cornell 12, Hobart 8

Brennan Donville (Hill School) made eight saves in goal for Cornell, while Peter Zonino (Conestoga) had 16 saves for Hobart.

Bryant 7 Hartford 5

Shane Morrell (Episcopal Academy) had a goal, an assist and two GB while Connor Dent (St. Joseph’s Prep) had five GB to lead Bryant.

For Hartford, Chris Duffy (Abington) collected seven GB and four CT, Adam Yee (Penncrest) won 6 of 16 face-offs and added five GB and a CT, Andrew Cacchio (Holy Ghost Prep) had two GB and Tate Klidonas (Emmaus) had one GB.

UMass 8, Harvard 4

Peter Schwartz (La Salle) had two goals and an assist and Grove Stewart (Haverford School) added two GB for Harvard.

Providence 8, Vermont 6

Ahmad Zachary (Lower Merion) had two GB for UVM.

Johns Hopkins 14, Michigan 5

Joey Carlini (Malvern Prep) had three GB and a CT while Drew Kennedy (Malvern Prep) won 6 of 14 FO for the Blue Jays.

For Michigan, Jeff Chu (Conestoga) had four GB and a CT while goalie Robbie Zonino (Conestoga) made seven saves.

High Point 12, Sacred Heart 10

Pat Farrell (St. Joseph’s Prep) had two CT while Joe Taulane (Garnet Valley) added a GB and a CT for High Point.

Ohio State 11, Marquette 7

Blaine Fleming (St. Joseph’s Prep) had a goal for Marquette.

Mercer 11, Richmond 7

Tom Monzo (Penn Charter) had two CT and a GB for Richmond.

Bellarmine 8, Jacksonville 4

Matt Taulane (Garnet Valley) had a GB for the winners.

Duke 14, Stony Brook 6

Jordan Wolf (Lower Merion) had four goals and three assists and defenseman Jamie Ikeda (Conestoga) added three GB and a CT for the Blue Devils.

Robert Morris 11, Detroit 7

Eric Rankel (Downingtown West) had a goal, an assist, four GB and a CT while defenseman Joe Scenna (Perkiomen Valley) contributed a GB for RMU.

Air Force 17, Marist 9

Keith Dreyer (Malvern Prep) had a goal and two assists as well as three GB while Eric warden (Garnet Valley) had two GB and a CT for Air Force.

Colin Joka (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had an assist and Jimmy Murphy a GB and a CT for Marist.
