With the 2014 season right around the corner, Hofstra Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith announced today that seniors Emily Corzel (Merion Mercy) and Emily von Hollen have been named captains for the 2014 campaign.

“Emily Corzel and Emily von Hollen exemplify the qualities that every program is looking for in its leaders,” commented Smith. “Their work ethic, passion for the game and determination for success inspires everyone around them. As a coaching staff we could not have asked for two better leaders to help guide us on our journey this season.”

Both Corzel and von Hollen are fifth year seniors who have been members of the program since the 2009-10 academic year.

Corzel, a defender from Bryn Mawr, PA, has played in 39 games during her career as she has overcome multiple injuries to make her way back to the field. During her career she has totaled 32 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and four draw controls. A four-time Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Commissioner’s Academic Award recipient, Corzel has also been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll on a pair of occasions. She was also a 2010 CAA All-Rookie selection.

Von Hollen, a midfielder who hails from Severna Park, MD, has appeared in 41 games during her Pride tenure. She has had a couple of breakout seasons during the last two campaigns as she notched 12 goals in 2012 and 11 goals in 2013. In total, she has 29 career points on 24 goals and five assists. She has also contributed 26 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers and five draw controls. She is a three-time CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award honoree.

Hofstra opens the 2014 season on Saturday, February 15 when it travels to New Hampshire for a 12 p.m. contest.
