The Bandits Lacrosse Club Team 2018 (U13) claimed the Philly ShowDown (7th Grade Division) Lacrosse Tournament Championship held at Germantown Academy on July 13th-14th, with a 7-3 win over the Central New York Road Hawks.
The Bandits went undefeated in both the pool play and playoff rounds (6-0) for the tournament. Fifty teams over three age groups from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Maryland competed in the two-day tournament.
The victory caps off a standout summer travel season for the Bandits 2018 team with an overall record of 20-4. This summer, Bandits 2018 reached the championship game in three of its four tournaments, amassing 166 “Goals For” and only 55 “Goals Against.”
“We’re extremely proud of the team,” said Bandits Coach Steve Herold. “Add to that the fact that some of the tournaments were played with only 13 or 14 field players, and two goalies, in 90+ degree temperatures, and the success of this team is remarkable.”
The team featured Ben Goetz, Connor Reed, Bobby Bausman, Eddie Masterson, Tommy Reinhart, Jerry Bardol, Christian Persichetti, Matt Marrella, Bobby Bohner, Andrew LaPenta, Chris McDermott, Eric Diamond, Coach Don Eavenson, Aaron Olsovsky, Alex Koenig, Max Winebrake, Mac McLaughlin, Blake Target, Brendan Meagher and Kenny Diamond.
Coach Don Eavenson said, “This is a very special group of young men who not only possess great lacrosse IQ and stick skills, but who understand how to play the team game, rather than play as a group of individuals.” Coach Jay Foster agreed, “Each one of the boys played a critical role in the team’s success – they had to – we only had four subs! It’s been an amazing experience coaching such a unique group of student-athletes who share a love of the game with respect for each other as well as their opponents. Steve, Don and I are extremely proud and we look forward to following this rare group of over-achievers as they become impact players at the high school and college level.”
Bandits Lacrosse Club is a select summer travel program attracting elite student-athletes from Upper Dublin, Abington, Wissahickon, Springfield, Conshohocken, Plymouth Whitemarsh, Horsham, North Penn, and Reading, Pa. Bandits Lacrosse emphasize developing students of the game first, through mastering both foundational skills and one’s understanding of the game, in an educational environment that places a premium on playing with passion and a high lacrosse IQ.
