Eight different players scored, led by senior Charlotte Swavola (Cheltenham) with four goals, as the Temple lacrosse team cruised to a 14-7 victory over Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at Geasey Field.

The Owls (3-0) and the Mountain Hawks (1-1) finished with the same number of shots (22) but Temple had strong performances on defense and converted on an impressive number of attempts on the offensive end.

Swavola added an assist to her four goals for five total points. Senior Kellee Pace (Chichester), freshman Rachel Schwaab and freshman Nicole Tiernan scored two goals apiece, with Tiernan also recording an assist.

The Mountain Hawks’ Kris Abens (Unionville) and Carli Sukonik (Hafrriton) each scored twice.

The Owls did not allow a single goal in the first half thanks to five saves by Meghan Clothier, and the lead was 7-0 at halftime. Clothier did not return to the cage in the second half, finishing the game with 30 minutes played, five saves and zero goals allowed.

Pace scored on a free position shot less than four minutes into the game, and Swavola added her first goal just a few minutes later.

Schwaab’s goals came back-to-back within three minutes of each other to give Temple a 4-0 lead. With 10 minutes left in the first half, freshmen Avery Longstaff and Megan Tiernan needed just 40 seconds to increase the Owls’ lead to 6-0, with Longstaff getting an assist from Kathryn Skahan, and Tiernan scoring on a free position shot. Bridget Hufnagel added one more tally down the stretch to reach seven goals by halftime.

The Mountain Hawks started what became a better second half with a goal in the first three minutes. They recorded two more shots in the next minute, with one being blocked and the other resulting in the first save of the contest for Jaqi Kakalecik, Temple’s second goalkeeper of the game.

Swavola notched her second goal for an 8-1 lead on a free position shot with 23 minutes left. After causing a Lehigh turnover, Nicole Tiernan (Washington Township) finished it with another Temple goal for a 9-1 advantage. She scored again three minutes later for a nine-goal lead, but that would be the Owls’ largest.

Lehigh scored two in a row before Swavola answered, completing the hat trick after getting the draw control and scoring a minute later. She broke into another 2-0 Lehigh run a few minutes later, scoring her fourth goal and giving the Owls a 12-6 lead.

With less than four minutes to go the Owls got another two goals in a hurry, with Jaymie Tabor (Downingtown East) assisting on a goal by Pace, and Swavola assisting on a goal by Tabor.

The Mountain Hawks’ Kris Abens (Unionville) and Carli Sukonik (Hafrriton) each scored twice.
