The University of Vermont women’s lacrosse team will add nine freshmen for the upcoming 2014 season. Alex Bernier (Falmouth, Maine), Alison Bolt (Tully, N.Y.), Meghan Cobb (Wilmington, Del.), Anne-Marie Farmer (South Burlington, Vt.), Mackenzie Maher (Stratham, N.H.), Meredith Moore (Baltimore, Md.), Katy Ranaldo (Burlington, Vt.), Rachael Smith (Germantown, Tn.) and Emma Tizard (Phoenix, Md.) will each enter their rookie season with the Catamounts. Head coach Jen Johnson made the announcement today.
“We are very excited to have this class join us at UVM. They are all tremendous athletes who have had very successful high school careers. They will bring speed, skill, and a competitive edge to this year’s young team. I am very confident that they will make an impact right away,” commented Johnson.
Cobb – a two-time All-Phillylacrosse.com Delaware pick – comes to Vermont from Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Delaware, where she earned First Team All-American honors her senior season, and First Team All-State honors in each of her final two years.
Bernier comes to Vermont from Falmouth High School in Maine, where she was a 2012 All-American First Team selection, and a three-time Western Maine All-Conference First Team member.
Bolt joins UVM after spending four years at Tully Junior/Senior High School in Tully, N.Y. During her senior season, she was named an All-American and also earned a spot on the All-Central New York Team.
Farmer joins the program after spending four years at nearby South Burlington High School. At SBHS, Farmer earned All-American honors in 2012 and 2013, and was selected to the All-State First Team three times.
Maher, a goalkeeper, comes to UVM from Holderness School in New Hampshire, where she was a New England Prep School All-Star in both 2012 and 2013, and also earned a WDNT Team 1 selection in 2011.
Moore joins the program after four years at Loch Raven High School in Towson, Md. In high school, Moore was named a Baltimore County All-Star and made the Baltimore County All-Division Team her senior season.
Ranaldo comes to Vermont from nearby Rice Memorial High School, where she was an All-American Honorable Mention her senior season, and also a DII All-State First Team selection in both 2012 and 2013.
Smith joins the program after four years at St. George’s School in Collierville, Tn. Smith earned All-Region and All-State honors in each of her final two seasons there, and was named the team’s MVP three times.
Tizard comes to Vermont from Maryvale Prep School in Brooklandville, Md., where she earned Towson Tmes Honorable Mention her senior season and helped lead her team to the 2012 IAAM A Division Championship game.
This past season, Vermont finished 7-11 overall and 2-4 in league play. The Catamounts earned the fourth seed in the conference and advanced to the America East semifinals.
The Catamounts return all six of their all-conference selections from a season ago. Seniors Sydney Mas and Karli MacKendrick, both first team all-conference members in 2013, will look to lead the Catamounts this season.
