Womens’ recruits: Chestnut Hill College announces signees for Class of 2017

Hard at work on the recruiting trail, Chestnut Hill College Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach, Chelsea Rosiek (Wissahickon, Temple) is pleased to announce her first pride of Griffins. Introducing the women’s lacrosse recruits for 2014.

Gabrielle Balara (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) – Midfielder
A 5’5”, three-sport participant for Nazareth Academy, Balara is a true student-athlete. While serving as a captain for the Pandas soccer (four years), basketball (two years), and lacrosse (three years) teams she has also been active in the academy’s academic communities as a First Honors student, the President for the Cancer Awareness Club, and the Junior Leader for the Athletic Association. Balara is a three-year varsity starter for the Panda’s girls’ lacrosse team.

Coach Rosiek’s Remarks: “We are very pleased to be able to offer a local product, such as Gabby Balara, a place on our 2013-2014 roster. She is extremely talented and has excelled in both academics and athletics during her four years at Nazareth. We know she will be a midfield force for our program, as well as a leader both on and off the field.”

Alicia Herbert (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional) – Attack
Herbert is a 5’4″, three-sport athlete from Pinelands Regional High School, where she is a member of National Honor Society, as well as, the Spanish National Honors Society. In 2011, Herbert received the Wildcats Girls’ Lacrosse Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and in 2012 she led the Wildcats in points (72) with 53 goals and 19 assists. Herbert also stood out as a member of the Wildcats girls’ soccer and basketball teams, receiving the Wildcats Sportsperson award for soccer after their 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Coach Rosiek’s Remarks: “We are delighted to welcome Ali Herbert and her family into the CHC (Chestnut Hill College) lacrosse family. Ali’s athleticism and academic accomplishments will help our program reach the next level of competitive play within the CAAC (Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) and NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II lacrosse. She is extremely talented, and will be an offensive force for the 2013-2014 season.

Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) – Midfield
Herron is a 5’10” midfielder from Cinnaminson High School. She participated in varsity basketball and soccer, but shined as a three-year starter for the Pirates girls’ lacrosse team. Last year (2012), she led her team in draw controls (how many?) and was named the Pirates Most Improved Player (MIP). She earned the Pirates Unexpected Leader award as a sophomore (2011). Herron is a member of the National Honor Society. She plans on majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Coach Rosiek’s Remarks: “We are thrilled to have Samantha Herron join our 2013-2014 lacrosse team. Samantha is an extremely talented midfielder and she will provide us with the skill we need in the center to advance to the top of NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division II lacrosse. She is gifted both on the field and off, and will be an integral part of CHC (Chestnut Hill College) lacrosse’s success in the near future.”

Tizana Hoggs (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) – Midfield
“Tizzy” Hoggs is a 5’9″, three-year varsity starter for Northern Burlington Regional High School. She was also a member of the 2013 Garden State Elite Lacrosse Club, which participated in regional lacrosse tournaments throughout the tri-state area. She is an honor roll recipient, four-year member of student council, member of S.T.O.P (Students Together Opposing Prejudice), and recipient of the Greyhound Gala Award.

Coach Rosiek’s Remarks: “We are so pleased to welcome Tizzy and her family into the CHC (Chestnut Hill College) family. Tizzy’s enthusiasm and passion for the sport is undeniable. She will be a huge contributor on both the offensive and defensive end of the field. Her speed and tenacity will definitely make her a player to watch in the CACC (Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) for the 2013-2014 season”

Katherine Joe Lang (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park High School)- Goalkeeper
Lang is a 5’8″, two-sport athlete at Osbourn Park High School, competing in lacrosse and field hockey. As a junior (2012) Katie Joe was named All-District First Team, All-Region Second Team, and a US Lacrosse Academic All-American. Lang was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Nova West LAX Team Stellar for the summer 2012 travel season. She is also a three-year starter and the 2012 captain of the Yellow Jackets varsity field hockey team. In addition, Lang is a member of the National Honor Society and is active in the Drama Department, while also volunteering for the Cody’s Crew Foundation.

Coach Rosiek’s Remarks: “CHC (Chestnut Hill College) lacrosse is proud to offer Katie Joe Lang a place on our roster for the 2013-2014 season. She is an extremely talented goalkeeper, and her strong presence in the cage will complete our defensive line-up for the 2013-2014 season. We are so proud of her academic and athletic accomplishments and know that she will continue to be successful as a Griffin!”

Jacklyn O’Leary (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) – Attack
O’Leary is a 5’4″, four-year varsity lacrosse starter from East Meadow High School, where she also competed as a three-year varsity soccer player. For lacrosse, O’Leary currently ranks second on the Jets all-time scoring list; she was an All-Conference selection and the Team Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2012 after leading the Jets with 41 points. Academically, O’Leary is a member of the National Honors Society and on the East Meadow Student-Athlete Leadership Team. She is also a member of Long Island Liberty Lacrosse, a regional club team that participates in select lacrosse tournaments throughout the MidAtlantic region.

Coach Rosiek’s Remarks: “CHC (Chestnut Hill College) lacrosse is delighted to have, the very talented, Jackie O’Leary join the women’s lacrosse program. Her offensive accolades will help CHC (Chestnut Hill College) Lax (Lacrosse) become a powerhouse in the CACC (Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference), and will provide the offensive production needed to win championships. We are very proud of Jackie’s athletic and academic accomplishments, and look forward to having her success continue at the collegiate level.”

Rachel Perry (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown High School) – Defense
Perry is a 5’4″ defender from Boyertown High School. She is a three-year varsity starter for the Lady Bears lacrosse program. Last year (2012), she received PAC-10 (college?) All-Area Second Team selection and, most recently, she was named to the 2013-2014 Philly Girls Showcase All-Star Team. Perry also played three years of varsity field hockey for the Lady Bears. She is also a member of Dynamite Lacrosse, a regional club team, participating in regional tournaments throughout the tri-state area.

Coach Rosiek’s Remarks: “We are very excited to have such a strong defensive force join the Griffins for the 2013-2014 season. Rachel Perry will be an impact player right away and her athleticism will provide the defensive presence we need to win the CACC (Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) in the coming years”
