West Chester is No. 3 in Lacrosse Magazine’s 2013 NCAA Division II preseason rankings, released Friday. Meanwhile, Golden Rams senior attack Tori Dugan (Bayard Rustin) was named the preseason co-Player of the Year.
The No. 1 team, LIU Post (formerly C.W. Post), edged West Chester, 17-16, to win the 2012 NCAA championship, thanks largely to reigning IWLCA Attacker of the Year Jackie Sileo, who scored an NCAA record nine points in the final and a record 17 points in the tournament as a sophomore.
Dugan capped a spectacular campaign with five goals in the national championship loss to C.W. Post. She set a school record with 134 draw controls. Dugan’s 94 points were the most in a single season by a Golden Rams player since Steph Kienle set the single-season Division II record with 143 points in 2008. She ranked fifth in the country in draw controls, seventh in points and 10th in assists (40). Dugan was also named first-team All-PSAC, as well as the conference’s player of the year, along with taking home first team All-South Region honors.
