Under Armour girls: Philly downs Midwest to gain split on Day 1

Team Philly used balanced scoring to gain a 10-9 win today over the Midwest, giving it a split in the first day of action at the Under Armour Underclassmen Games at Towson University.Under-Armour1

Bridget Chakey (Agnes Irwin, 2014 MF, Syracuse) had two goals and an assist for Team Philly while Casey Swezey (Hatboro-Horsham, 2015 MF) and Hannah Keating (Agnes Irwin, 2016, A) each scored twice. Also, Elena Romesburg (Central Bucks West, 2014 MF, James Madison), Zoey Gomez (Wissahickon, 2014 A, Hofstra), Alex Silvera (Episcopal Academy, 2014 A, Columbia) and Katie O’Donnell (Henderson, 2014 MF, Penn State) each scored once. Silvera added an assist.

Meanwhile, Haley Warden (Garnet Valley, 2014 MF, James Madison) had four DCs, three GBs and 3 steals while Liz Jacobs (Princeton High, 2014 MF, Dartmouth) had two GBs. Goalie Ali Kothari (Shipley, 2015) had five saves in goal.

In the first game, Team Philly fell to Washington D.C., 13-8. Romesburg had three goals and Chakey added two goals and an assist while Jacobs, Warden and Keating each scored once. Issy Schmitt (Archbishop Carroll, 2015, MF, Delaware) had two steals and Melina Avery (Harriton, 2014, Syracuse) made eight saves and Kothari five.

Philly opens play Saturday at 10:30 a.m. vs. Long Island on Field 4.

New Jersey also split, downing New England, 11-8, and then falling to Baltimore, 13-12.
