The Lehigh morning started out sunny and warm, only to see the wind pick up and the temperature plummet as the day went on.
The Twist 2015 lacrosse team? It stayed hot all day.
Twist 2015 went 5-0 today to win the White Varsity Division of the King of the Mountain tournament at Lehigh. Twist won the championship game, with a resounding 12-0 shutout over One More.
The tournament championship ended a three-tournament fall run that saw Twist go 11-0 between the Fall Brawl, Quakerfest and now King of the Mountain.
Twist went 3-0 in pool play to start the tournament and then defeated 2KL – a team from Central Jersey made up primarily of Bridgewater Raritan High players – 5-3 in the semifinals.
The day started against Springfield High (Delaware County), who led Twist 2-0 at the half and 3-2 with four minutes left before Michael Major (Holy Ghost Prep) scored two late goals for a 4-3 win.
The second game was against New Jersey power Bergen Catholic. Major scored three more goals in that one and then Jake Henze (Central Bucks South) scored the game-winner in a three-on-three Braveheart in the 5-4 win.
The final pool game was a 9-0 win over East End, a team from Easton.
Twist was led by Major’s 12 goals in five games, while Matt Vetter (Central Bucks East) was the second-leading scorer. Jack Auteri (La Salle) won better than 80% of his face-offs on the day.
Goalies Ian Davis (Germantown Academy) and Greg Price (Holy Ghost Prep) allowed 10 goals in five games, helped by a defense of Matthew Anderson (Pennsbury), Jackson Ehlert (Exeter), Michael Eveland (Central Bucks East), Brandon Huegel (Archbishop Wood), Nick Lawlor (Springside Chestnut Hill), James Oeth (Springside Chestnut Hill), and Kevin Witchey (Central Bucks South).
