Twist Blue 2015 reached the championship game of the Rising Junior AA division at the Tri-State tournament this weekend in West Windsor, N.J.
Twist went 6-2 on the weekend, losing its second game in pool play and the championship game to Tri-State’s top team.
After going 4-1 in its pool games, Twist rallied past Tar Heel Lax from North Carolina 6-4 in Sunday’s quarterfinal round. Twist trailed 4-3 with 10 minutes to play before Jake Henze (Central Bucks South), Matt Vetter (Central Bucks East) and Connor Howell (Wilson West Lawn) scored.
Michael Major (Holy Ghost Prep) scored twice and Howell, Matt Brown (Central Bucks East), Ryan Connolly (Wilson West Lawn) and Zach Keller (Hill) scored once each as Twist defeated Rock Lacrosse from Baltimore 6-1 in the semifinal. Goalies Ian Davies (Germantown Academy) and Greg Price (Holy Ghost Prep) combined for nine saves and one goal against.
Twist and Tri-State traded early goals and were even in the final at 1-1 for 25 minutes of 35-minute game before Tri-State broke it open for a 7-2 win. Vetter had both Twist goals.
Vetter and Major tied for the team lead for the weekend with six goals each, and Vetter and Howell had 10 points each. Garret Trucksess (Germantown Academy) and James Diver (Germantown Academy) had five goals each.
Nick Lawlor (Springside Chestnut Hill) had seven caused turnovers, while Mike Eveland (Central Bucks East) had five and Matthew Anderson (Pennsbury) and Jackson Ehlert (Exeter) had four each.
Davies and Price combined for a 3.25 goals-against average and .683 save percentage.
Twist Blue is now 20-7 for the summer and has reached the final at three of four tournaments.
