From Press Release
Players in the Classes of 2015, 2016 and 2017 that seek elite training to go with top competition are encouraged to register for Old School Lacrosse Club Tryouts this Sunday and Sept. 22 at Phelps School.
The Old School program focuses on skill development and was the first club program to offer high level college and professional instruction, according to owner John Nostrant (Haverford School coach). Nostrant was pleased to recently announce that former World Champion player and coach and former Philadelphia Wings standout and assistant coach Adam Mueller was named as Field coordinator and director of Coaching.
“We are excited to have a guy with Adam’s knowledge and passion for the game fully engaged with the Old School club,” Nostrant said. “We were the first high school club to offer high level college and professional instruction so to have Adam running the show at Old School allows us to continue to be the best instructional club in the area.”
The tryouts schedule at Phelps (583 Sugartown Road. Malvern, PA 19355) is as follows: Class of 2017 – 12:00pm – 1:30pm; Class of 2016 – 1:30pm – 3:00pm; Class of 2015 – 3:00pm – 4:30pm. The cost is $25.
Muller, a standout at St. Joseph’s-Metuchen (N.J.), was a four-year All-Conference pick at Michigan State University, and played 11 years of professional lacrosse in the MLL and NLL. He coached eight years with the Wings, Minnesota Swarm, and New York Titans, leading all three teams to the NLL playoffs.
Mueller was the NLL Coach of the Year in 2008 with the Titans and is crediting for coaching and helping develop elite players such as Casey Powell, Ryan Boyle and Brendan Mundorf.
At the amateur level, Mueller developed and instructional model for all ages of development for youth lacrosse organizations and has coached age groups from U-7 through pro level at the town, club and regional levels including Avon Grove Youth, Penn Star, Philly Fever, Old School Lacrosse and Mesa Fresh.
Mueller also developed off season skill sessions curriculum that trains players in both Canadian Box and American field skills to play faster and more efficiently.
Besides Mueller and Nostrant – an Eastern PA Chapter Hall of Fame inductee and coach of the undefeated 2011 national champions – the coaching staff includes Mike McGuane, Bob DiIonno, Warner Bailey, Mike Rufo and other college and high school coaches.
Directors ask that all candidates please register via the website and arrive 30 minutes early to check in for tryouts.
It is strongly suggested to attend both sessions for the best possible evaluation (one fee covers both).
Club members will also have the opportunity to register for Old School’s Winter Stick Skills training sessions. Visit the website at www.oslacrosse.com for options.
