Thursday’s boys’ HS highlights: Springfield-D, Strath Haven, Haverford High, Kennett earn wins

Vince Marra (four goals) had the game-tying goal late in regulation and then scored in overtime to lift host Springfield-Delco to s stunning 10-9 come-from-behind victory over Penncrest Thursday in Central League boys’ lacrosse.

The Cougars (4-3, 3-1) were down 8-3 at one point in the second half before outscoring the Lions, 7-1. Steve Halko added two goals and two assists.

Will Mangianello had three goals to lead Penncrest (4-2, 2-2).

Strath Haven 11, Marple Newtown 8

The Panthers outscored the Tigers, 7-1, in the fourth quarter to rally for a Central league win.
Tucker Carney (three goals, four assists), Mitch Cross (three goals, three assists) and Brian Mizell each scored twice in the fourth-quarter comeback.

Will Ohley added three goals and three assists and Ted Bergman had 13 saves for the Panthers (2-5, 1-3).

Dave Talda had three goals and Tyler Kostack added two goals and three assists for Marple Newtown (4-3, 1-3), which led, 7-4, after three periods.

Haverford High 7, Garnet Valley 4

Gavin VanStone was brilliant with 19 saves and Kevin Leyden, Owen Green and Mike Muff each scored twice to pace the Fords.

Andrew Cahall had two goals for the Jaguars.

Radnor 8, Ridley 6

Peter Donato had two goals and two assists and Tom Hemcher scored twice to lead the Red Raiders over the Green Raiders.

Jake Shapiro won 12 of 16 face-offs and Brendan Manderack had nine saves for Radnor.

Lower Merion 9, Upper Darby 2

Evan Wolf scored five goals to spark the Aces.

Kennett 8, Downingtown East 7, OT

Brady O’Neill (two goals, two assists) scored in overtime amd Matt Worrall had three goals to give the Demons a thrilling Ches-Mont win.

Goalie Zach Longacre (11 saves) was especially outstanding in overtime while Alex O’Brien, Matt Petrick, Connor Dalphon and Stephen Masha were defensive standouts.

Brandyn O’Connell had two goals and three assists for Downingtown East.

Great Valley 8, Bishop Shanahan 3

Tim Lamb, Noah Joseph, and Jack Waite had two goals apiece and Peter Hayes made 12 saves for Great Valley (5-3, 1-2).

Eric Giannetti led Shanahan with a goal and an assist and Anthony Wagner had 19 saves.

Haverford School 14, Germantown Academy 2

Reilly Hupfeldt had four goals and two assists to lead the Fords to their sixth straight win.

Episcopal Academy 9, Springside Chestnut Hill 3

Tyler Chambers had three goals and an assist and Peter Gayhardt scored three while Ian Strain had a goal and three assists to lead the Churchmen.
