From Press Release
With 11 first-place votes, the West Chester women’s lacrosse team earned the No. 1 slot on the 2013 PSAC Preseason Poll.
The Golden Rams last won a PSAC title in 2008, and most recently were knocked-out of the PSAC tournament in the semifinals by the eventual champion, Bloomsburg. Despite exciting the PSAC Championship early, West Chester battled through the NCAA tournament to reach the championship match for the ninth time in program history.
West Chester returns eight starters, including All-American and PSAC Athlete of the Year Tori Dugan (Bayard Rustin), who led her team last season at attack with 54 goals and 40 assists fro 94 points on the season. Dugan also set a West Chester record in 2012 with 134 draw controls. On defense, the Rams will look to returner Theresa Giunta, who was part of a 2012 defense that allowed less than 10 goals per game.
Six-time PSAC Champion, Lock Haven, earned the final first-place nod, and was picked to finish second in the league. The Lady Eagles return five starters from a year ago, including two of Lock Haven’s top scorers last season. Junior Chelsea Borrino and senior Emily Cilla combined for 49 goals and 30 assists in 2012.
Defending PSAC Champion, Bloomsburg, took third in the poll, while Mercyhurst, another 2012 PSAC title contender, was selected fourth. Gannon and IUP, 2012 PSAC Championship Quarterfinal participants, were chosen fifth and sixth, respectively.
