Who are the best men’s college lacrosse teams in the Philadelphia region?
The rankings will be released this Wednesday on Philly LAX Live, which runs at 6:30 p.m. on Comcast Network and 11:30 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet.
“We wanted to recognize the tremendous growth and interest in college lacrosse in the region,” said Chris Goldberg, Owner of Lacrosse Media, which operates Phillylacrosse.com. “And we are thrilled to partner with the Philadelphia Wings by bringing it to the TV audience on a show that is drawing much interest for its coverage of pro, college, high school and youth lacrosse.
Philly LAX Live is hosted by former Wings great Scott Gabrielsen and Wings Assistant Captain and defenseman Brett Manney, a former Holy Ghost Prep and University of Delaware great who coaches with NXT Lacrosse.
“This year Philly is hosting the NCAA Men’s Championship Weekend and the Women’s Division I finals as well as the Big East men’s tourney again,” said Goldberg. “Inside Lacrosse also is running the Whitman’s Sampler Independence Classic at PPL Park, proving others have noticed our star power.
“It’s clear that Philly has become a top hotbed not only for high school lacrosse, but college lax as well.”
The Philly Power 15 rankings will include men’s teams in Division I, II and III. Goldberg said he and the Wings wanted to recognize the accomplishments of all levels of lacrosse in the region.
“Just look at the Top 20 caliber men’s teams in our region,” he said. “In the past three years we have seen Drexel, Delaware, Lafayette, Lehigh, Penn, Penn State, Princeton and Villanova all hit the Top 20 for extended stays at one time or another.”
“We’ve also seen such a growth in the Division II and III levels. In the five years we’ve run Phillylacrosse.com, Gwynedd Mercy, Penn State Abington, Chestnut Hill College, Rosemont, Albright, Arcadia and Bryn Athyn have added men’s programs. That’s amazing, and a testament to the area’s interest in college lacrosse!”
