Pansini & Mezrow and congratulate this week’s final honorees for the Pansini & Mezrow Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Each winner receives a $50 gift certificate to Starbuck’s. Overall male and female winners at the end of the season will receive a large cash prize.

Emma Dillon, Jenkintown, Senior Midfielder

College choice: University of Virginia (for academics)

Community Service: Volunteer at Woods Services, a school for special needs students; American Heart Association-Relay for Life

Academic Honors: President, World Language Honor Society; National Honor Society; Microcredit Club Member, Student Council Member; GPA of 4.0 (Honors and AP classes); National Merit Commendation; Harvard Book Club Award; Linda Vogel-Corlette Award (given to the top female athlete at JHS).

Lacrosse Honors: 4 year varsity starter, 1st team All-League 10th-12th, League MVP-12th, 2012 US Lacrosse High School All-Academic Team, Team Captain 11th-12th.


Sara Curley, Radnor, Junior Attack

Community Service: Involved with school service and Radnor Youth lacrosse

Academic Honors: National Merit Scholar; GPA of 4.0

Lacrosse Honors: PASLA team 1, starting member of Central league quad-champions and state finalist


Jeannie Van Buren, Abington, Sophomore Midfielder

Community Service: Bronze Service Award; 2012 Presidents Award- Leadership

Academic Honors: National Honor Society, 4 time Honor roll 2012 & 2013; 3.84 GPA

Lacrosse Honors: 2013 SOLN First Team All-Conference; 2012 “Rookie of the Year”, 2012 SOL Second Team All League, 2012 First Team All League


Katherine Thompson, Middletown (DE), Senior Defense Wing

College Choice: Committed to Newberry College in South Carolina to play lacrosse and field hockey

Community Service: Raised $2,200 through Winning for Walt. Walt Kern was a member of the community who along with his wife ran the youth lacrosse league. Pam Kern his wife, was Katie’s first lacrosse coach. Katie started with the idea to help raise money for his medical bills. Walt also has 3 children who are all involved with lacrosse. Walt passed away in November from a long battle with liver disease. In his memory, Katie sold over 400 lacrosse Liver Awareness t-shirts to multiple teams (boys, girls, youth, high school, and college) as well as hosting 1 youth game, 2 boys games, and 1 girls game to raise awareness about liver disease and organ donation. All the money raised is going to the American Liver Foundation in Walt Kerns’ memory. The t-shirts were green and yellow and said Keep Calm and Lax On and they had Walt’s initials on them.

Academic Honors: Class officer, National Honor Society officer, graduated in the top 5%, GPA is 4.22

Awards: Most Athletic in the senior class, 4 time All-Conference Lacrosse, 2 time All-State in lacrosse, All-State and All-Conference field hockey

Lacrosse Honors: Led the state of Delaware in assists (45), was selected 1st team All-Conference and 1st team All-State, scored 44 goals in 2013

Danny Norris, Avon Grove, Junior Defenseman

Committed to Lehigh University

Community Service: Volunteers at a local teen center and food bank

Academic Honors: Is 25th out of 455 students (top 5%); has over a 4.2 GPA while taking highest level honors courses

Lacrosse Honors: Starting member of first Avon Grove team to win Ches-Mont League and District 1 championships; First Team All-Ches-Mont


Andrew Wofford, Shipley School, Senior Attackman

College choice: Tufts

Community Service: Performed over 40 hrs of service over the past 4 years in our service program plus his senior year service with the Philly Clean Air Coalition

Academic Honors: GPA of 4.21, 15 honors level courses

Lacrosse Honors: Co-Captain, First Team All-Friends Schools League; helped lead team to fourth straight league title; had 42 goals, 27 assists in 2013


Connor Hayden, New Hope-Solebury, Junior Attackman

Community Service: Hurricane Sandy Beach Relief Volunteer (clean up), HEADstrong Foundation (Rivalry Games) Fundraiser

Academic Honors: National Honor Society, Class Rank – Top 5, GPA: 101 Average, equivalent to a 4.4 GPA (due to advanced placement classes)

Lacrosse honors: Had 35 goals and 21 assists in 2013
