Former Drexel lacrosse standout Robert Church was selected with the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 2013 National Lacrosse League draft by the Edmonton Rush. Church became the first Drexel player ever selected in the first round of the draft. In addition, his teammate, Garrett McIntosh, was selected in the third round by the Calgary Roughnecks.
Church, a native of British Columbia, scored 33 goals, handed out 24 assists and had 57 points in his final season. He completed his career with 121 career goals which tied him for third on the all-time list at Drexel. Church is also fourth in career points at the school and eighth in career assists. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American in 2012 and played in the USILA North-South All-Star game. McIntosh was a short stick defender for the Dragons and projects to a defenseman at the next level. He was the 24th pick overall.
The Dragons finished the year with an 11-4 record. They were ranked 18th in the last USILA Coaches’ Poll.
