Marple Newtown High School inducted three lacrosse players into its Hall of Fame at a Banquet and Induction Ceremony at the Paxon Hollow Country Club in Broomall on Thursday.
The newest members of the Hall of Fame include Cynthia Mathes Howard (Field Hockey, Basketball, Lacrosse, 1987), Jenn Cook (Soccer, Swimming, Lacrosse, 2003) and Kelly McGuigan Ulmer (Field Hockey, Basketball, Lacrosse, 1988).
Mathes Howard and McGuigan Ulmer were captains on the 1987 District 1 championship team, which had an 18-0-1 record and won the Central League championship. That squad toppled Radnor in the District 1/state title game and was coached by JoAnn Yusko, who delivered induction speeches.
Mathes Howard played at Virginia and McGuigan Ulmer played at Loyola. Cook – now an assistant coach at Princeton – was a three-time first-team All-America and earned 2006 National Defender of the Year honors from Inside Lacrosse while at North Carolina. She garnered first-team All-ACC honors three times, was a Tewaraaton Trophy nominee and helped lead the Tar Heels to three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. Cook also played for Yusko as a member of the Phantastix club team.
Cook was joined at her table by Princeton coach and Haverford High grad Chris Sailer, a US Lacrosse Hall of Famer.
