Every elite athlete dreams of playing on the sport’s biggest stage. For 27 former Brine National Lacrosse Classic players, their dream became reality this weekend in the Men’s NCAA Division I Lacrosse Championship at Lincoln Field in Philadelphia.
The 27 players representing Syracuse, Denver, Cornell, and Duke all played in the Brine National Lacrosse Classic, which showcases elite high school lacrosse players from across the country. The 2013 Brine high school tournament will be held at the Maryland SoccerPlex on June 30- July 3.
Players from Syracuse include midfielders: Derek Dejoe, Mike Messina, and Hakeem Lecky, attack: Derek Maltz, and defensemen: Brandon Mullins, Chris Swanson, and Sean Young. Cornell players include defensemen: Myan Adams and Russell Scott, attack: Matt Donovan and Dan Lintner, midfielder: Joe Paoletta and Connor Pagnani, and goalie: William Joyce. On the Denver roster are attackman: Harrison Archer, Bailey Dodds, and Tom Moore, midfielders: Wesley Berg, Chris Hampton, and Garret Holst, and defensemen: Harley Brown, Carson Cannon, and Mike Riis. Duke players include defensemen: Casey Carroll and Rowland Pettit, and midfielders: Deemer Class and Josh Offit. These former Brine Lacrosse Classic players have gone on to achieve their goal of reaching the NCAA Final Four.
Additionally, a total of 79 players who have played in the 2013 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse tournament in the first round and quarterfinals have participated in the Brine National Lacrosse Classic. Teams such as: Loyola, Maryland, Ohio State, Bryant, Towson, Denver, Duke, Syracuse, Cornell, and North Carolina all host previous Brine players.
The Brine National Lacrosse Classic showcases over 700 elite high school boys and girls’ lacrosse players who are competing for a national championship. This tournament allows players to show off their personal skills against other fierce competitors in front of NCAA lacrosse coaches.
This year the inaugural Pride of Pennsylvania Showcase will be held June 9 at The Hill School where 75 of the top players from throughout Pennsylvania will compete for a shot at making the PA regional team that will play at the Brine NLC. See full story.
Duke University’s Men’s Assistant Lacrosse Coach, Ron Caputo, is the Director of the Brine National All Star Lacrosse Academy for middle school boys, and Yale’s Men’s Assistant Coach, Graham Niemi, is a coach instructor.
