Noah Joseph scored on a Greg Merrill assist with two seconds remaining in regulation to lift Great Valley to an 11-10 victory over host Upper Dublin Tuesday in a District 1 boys’ lacrosse playback.
The eighth-seeded Patriots (17-5) will face Downingtown East Thursday at 4 p.m. at Harriton for District 1’s the fifth and final PIAA berth. East toppled Springfield-Delco, 13-10.
Great Valley fell behind 5-1 in the first quarter, but scored five straight goals to seize a 6-5 lead. The Cards later led, 8-7, but against Great Valley fought back and with the score tied, 10-10, Niall Durkan forced a key turnover and Merrill (four goals, three assists) then found Joseph for the game-winner.
Ethan Joseph scored three goals and Tim Lamb had a pair for Great Valley.
Mike Rama led the Cards with four goals and goalie Jack Deragon made 17 saves.
Downingtown East 13, Springfield-Delco 10
The second-seeded Cougars forced the fifth-place showdown with their Ches-Mont foes as Brandyn O’Connell had three goals and two assists and Kyle Lauletta added three goals and an assist.
