This summer a group of girls from Ultimate Goal Lacrosse played their last season together with one final challenge: to finish undefeated.
And, they accomplished their goal this past weekend at The Grind by going 4-0. But their success was bittersweet because it meant the end of a spectacular run.
Several years ago most of these girls were chosen to play for 2014 Ultimate Goal Blue with a single purpose: to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. Coached for most of that time by Jenny Duckenfield, they did far more than improve in lacrosse and earn college scholarships.
These girls learned the importance of commitment, responsibility and teamwork while forging friendships that will last a lifetime. This winter with all of the girls verbally committed to play in college, their beloved Coach Duck stepped down to offer her knowledge and recruiting skills to the 2016 Ultimate Goal Blue team while her daughter, Alex Duckenfield (Vanderbilt, Strath Haven) took over at the helm. To honor their coach, the team’s name was changed to 2014 Ultimate Goal Duck as they went out to play in four tournaments, defeating every team they faced from up and down the East Coast in Project 120, The Summer Classic, Round Up and last week at The Grind.
With their high school club careers behind them, these girls are looking forward to their senior year in high school and then successful college experiences. And they have only fond memories of their club lacrosse years.
