Junior attackman Michael Handlan collected six goals and two assists Saturday night to lead undefeated Moorestown to a 15-5 conquest of host Strath Haven in the nightcap of the inaugural “Playing for A’s” benefit.

The event, which also featured a matchup of the two girls’ teams, benefited the Alzheimer’s Association and Autism Speaks, two organizations chosen by the Strath Haven coaches.

The Quakers – ranked No. 7 by – fell behind, 2-0, but dominated the rest of the way to improve to 12-0. The Panthers fell to 5-11.

“They scored two goals early and then we kind of rebounded,” said Handlan, who is commited to Delaware. “I thought I played well, started off good and got on a run.”

Strath Haven goalie Ted Bergman (14 saves) helped keep his team in the game through the first half, which finished 6-4. But Moorestown used a 4-0 run in the third quarter to put it away.

“If you don’t communicate it hurts you all the time, it’s as important as playing the game,” said Strath haven coach Jef Hewlings. “Hats off to Moorestown, they’re a good program.

“We felt like we played our best lacrosse in the first half to hang with them and they figured it out a little bit in the second half.”

Matt Olbrich had three goals and an assist and won 11 of 16 face-offs for the Quakers. Robert Kuhn added two goals and Dan Willis made seven saves in goal.

Tucker Carney scored twice for Strath Haven and Will Ohley added a goal and two assists.

The Quakers’ athleticism and speed helped them take advantage on attack.

Drew Hillman was a big part in creating chances for Moorestown, dishing off five assists.

“They missed a couple slides,” he said. “We had the confidence to beat them one on one. So, it all starts from that.”
