Boys’ lacrosse: Malvern Prep edges Penn Charter, 8-7, in 2 OT on O’Connor goal

Tommy O’Connor scored with 1:43 left in the second overtime as host Malvern Prep earned a thrilling 8-7 victory over Penn Charter today in Inter-Ac League boys’ lacrosse.

The Friars, ranked No. 1 by and No. 13 in North America by, improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Inter-Ac. Penn Charter is 8-5 overall and 0-2 in the Inter-Ac.

The Quakers sent it into overtime with two goals in the final quarter of regulation. Pierce Kraft (three goals, one assist) tied it with 1:47 left in regulation off a James Vandegrift feed. Vandegrift had brought Penn Charter within 7-6 off a Kraft assist.

O’Connor and Ryan Hilburn each had three goals for the Friars and Kevin McGeary had a goal and an assist while Matt Barrett made seven saves in goal. Charles Kelly stood out at the face-off X.

For Penn Charter, Brandon White and Dean Roseman each had a goal and an assist and freshman goalie Sean McKee had 18 saves.
