Bishop Shanahan will host Bayard Rustin today (3:45) in a Ches-Mont League boys’ lacrosse “pink” game to benefit Unite For HER.
The players will be wearing pink shirts, socks and laces to honor those women in their lives that have been affected by breast cancer.
The JV game will follow. All spectators are encouraged to wear pink to show support for the cause.
The game is part of a larger project by schools across Chester County that are working to plan special “pink” fundraising games and events that will raise breast cancer awareness and provide donations to Unite for HER.
The Students Unite for HER effort provides valuable leadership opportunities to middle and high school students, while developing their sense of community, philanthropy and compassion for others. Each team or club that participates is challenged to develop and implement fundraising and breast cancer awareness ideas.
In previous years, participants have demonstrated incredible creativity and enthusiasm with impressive results by hosting “pink” games, t-shirt sales, bake sales, car washes, raffles, and other activities. The funds they raise go directly to Unite for HER outreach initiatives developed to help women with breast cancer become fully restored, provide financial assistance, and wellness education.
Each participating school or club may become eligible to receive a grant for the parent of a student or staff member affected by the disease. The Student Unite for HER Grants are based on annual fundraising totals and help students support their school community, as well.
At the conclusion of the last school year, Unite for HER had awarded six grants in the two years since the program’s inception. In addition, the program also emphasizes wellness and encourages healthy lifestyle choices by providing a free presentation to participating teams that addresses nutrition, health and beauty products, stress, and other topics relevant to teens.
