A week ago at Lincoln Financial Field, the Duke men’s lacrosse won its second Division I National Championship in four years, with large contributions from a number of Philly grads.
The Blue Devils defeated Syracuse, 16-10, to cap a 16-5 season that saw the Blue Devils win 14 of their last 15 games.
Junior attackman Jordan Wolf (Lower Merion) had four goals and two assists in the title game and was named to the All-Tournament team. Defensemen Bily Conners (Malvern Prep) and Henry Lobb (Malvern Prep) were key starters and brian Dailey (Conestoga) was the team’s top long pole. Tanner Scott (Conestoga) and Jamie Ikeda (Conestoga) also contributed as reserves during the year and senior goalie Dan Wigrizer (Haverford School) missed the second half of the year due to concussions, but played a major role as a mentor to sophomore goalie Kyle Turri.
The Orange also featured three Philly grads, reserve midfielder Matt Walters (Haverford School), reserve defenseman Bobby Tait (Germantown Academy) and backup goalie Matt Lerman (Episcopal Academy).
