Seventh Annual Nick Colleluori Classic kicks off

Action began today at 1 p.m. as seven Division I teams began their Fall Ball season at the 7th Annual Nick Colleluori Classic at Ridley High.

Philly teams Lafayette, St. Joseph’s and Villanova were joined by first-year Monmouth, Binghamton, VMI and Hofstra – where Nick Colleluori attended and fought Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma so bravely for 14 months while crewating the HEADstrong Foundation.

The final game today begins at 6 p.m. when Hofstra meets Villanova.

Hofstra senior Anthony Zappone (27) leads his team to the field as it gears for the Pride's first game today at the Nick Colleluori Classic. Zappone was named with the honor of wearing Nick Collelouri's No. 27 for the 2014 season by coach Seth Tierney for his Relentless attitude.

After the first two sessions of games today,Nick’s mother,HEADstrong Pesident Cheryl Colleluori, told the audience that nearly $4 million has been raised by the HEADsyrong Foundation.
During the ceremony, Colleluori briefly told the story of Garrett Augustyn, a Binghamton senior defenseman, whose brother Michael died 18 years ago today at the age of 10 from the same blood cancer that afflicted Nick Colleluori.

A highlight today was the debut of Monmouth as an NCAA Division I program. Monmouth is coached by 997 Ridley graduate Brian Fisher, who played on two state championship teams on Phil Marion Field.

Augustyn and Zappone were joined as Nick Colleluori team honorees by Monmouth freshman midfielder Eric Berger (Penn Charter), St. Joseph’s senior midfielder Rob Watts (St. Joseph’s Prep), Villanova senior midfielder Jimmy Wyatt, Lafayette senior Matt Evans, and VMI senior defenseman Rory Dillon,
