From Press Release
Head Coach Hannah Rudloff (West Chester East, Penn) has named Mary Moran and recent graduate Lindsey Kovar as Drexel’s assistant women’s lacrosse coaches for the upcoming 2013-14 season. Moran served as the Dragons’ graduate assistant last year, while Kovar returns to University City after coaching at St. Helen’s School in Northwood, England.
“I am extremely excited for Mary to step up into the assistant role,” Rudloff said. “Last year as a graduate assistant, Mary was instrumental in helping our defense achieve one of the lowest goals against per game percentages in Division I. She brings the necessary energy and discipline to our program, and I truly believe she will help us make huge strides in the 2014 season.”
Prior to Drexel, Moran had a distinguished playing career at Rutgers University. Moran was the Scarlet Knights’ team captain from 2011-12 and earned a three-year starting spot on defense. She was recipient of the 2011 Coach’s Choice Award and was selected to the 2011 All Big East Academic Team. In 2008, Moran was named the Most Improved Player.
After battling injuries during her first two seasons with the Dragons, Kovar played in 38 games and had a knack for scoring key goals, including the game-winner against UMBC during her senior year. She tallied 26 goals and nine assists for 35 career points. While at St. Helen’s, Kovar was the head lacrosse coach for the U-14 and U-13 teams, while also teaching physical education and lacrosse. She has various camp and club coaching experiences, including coaching with Long Island Liberty Lacrosse Club.
“Lindsey was an absolute workhorse for us as a player, and I know that she will carry that work ethic with her into coaching,” Rudloff said. “She has a passion for the game of lacrosse that is matched only by her love of Drexel, so I am extremely excited to welcome her back into our Dragon family.”
Moran graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Rutgers and is currently working toward her master’s degree in sport management at Drexel. Kovar graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport management in June of 2012 and is pursuing her master’s degree in Drexel’s higher education program.
